very beautiful song and a beautiful voice! much emotion, I like!

This is a simple little piece for organ I wrote for Christmas Midnight Mass at our friary chapel in NY in 1991 - the year I was a postulant with the Capuchins. I played it during the offertory (the part of the liturgy where the priest prepares the gifts at the altar before the prayers of consecration). I was thinking about the baby Jesus in the manger and the powerful affective feelings St. Francis had regarding that image. Although it's subdued, & not very technically or harmonically daring, it is somewhat sophisticated in its voicing and motivic concentration and has a certain profundity about it, I guess. I still like it, but don't get around an organ much to play it.
