French producer Teho makes a swift return to Herzblut to follow up his excellent Hope EP from May this year. His latest work sees him team up with fellow Frenchman and huge talent Tran, who's own music has been described as oscillating between minimal and melodic. Making this partnership a perfect fit. 

Their KOTO EP sees Teho & Tran submerging us in trademark emotional and powerful soundtracks, enhanced further by their use of the wonderful sounds of the Orient. Lead cut Asakusa elegantly displays its power through its pulsing one note bass and opening broken beat pattern. Its liquid flow sees it gather intensity before the Eastern strings echo in its breakdown. On the flip we are treated to more of the same, this time lead by Kabuki's beautiful flutes, warped bassline and plucked string melody. Perfection.

«We recorded this rework at night in Superpoze’s studio which is in a hidden cave under Paris streets. We played synth, drums, guitar, I wanted it to sound like a band covering the original version, because his work makes me feel like I’m listening to an Earth or a Mogwai record, it is atmospheric and meditative but powerful. His work is so honest that it is like listening to a part of his soul. end of last year I got a message said ‘ wanna make a record with SHAQ? ‘ .. yeah it was Shaquille O'neal. while making it I used a Rick Ross vocal in place and sent it over, next day the phone rang and Shaq told me he really dug the record, my soundcloud and told me he ‘ sent it to my homie Ross who thought it was fucking real dope ‘. conflicting schedules halted our work to finish it, so we made the choice to release the native version.

Hungry hits the ground running and kick starts 2016 with an excellent two-tracker by N’to.

For the release’s title track “Note Blanche” N’to further explores his shimmering, melodic & adventures deep house affection. Precise rhythms lead the way through a mystic moonlight atmosphere, while his trademark percussion sounds complement the synth and pad layers in perfect style.  

The playful “Meanwhile in Rio” tune takes a slightly different route. The groove has a distinctive shuffle and the timbres are vivid, offsetting extremely-smooth sub frequencies. The organic wooden sounds N’to created run along nicely with the classic organ melody.

The classically trained musician Worakls surprises with yet another high-quality two tracker for Hungry Music. He dedicates the release and track one to the electro-mechanical, polyphonic tape replay keyboard named Mellotron. The Mellotron was often used by the Beatles, Genesis and King Crimson. It became a notable instrument in progressive rock during the 1960s until the 1980s. Worakls crafts a well balanced musical piece featuring the trademark Mellotron sound, combined with a cutting-edge and warm dance groove. The orchestral atmospheric elements give ‘Mellotron’ that indescribable timeless touch that Worakls delivers so well.

Next up is the dramatic & energy filled ‘Pandemonium” composition. Worakls once again skillfully combines not only two but three musical genres and molds them into an epic dance track. The string section and diabolical brass instruments set the dramaturgical vibe, while the various layers of guitars rock their way into mayhem. The strong 4/4 beat carries the musical elements gracefully and provides full dancefloor compatibility.

XYLØ reached out to me a while back to remix this song and we both recently decided to stop keeping it to ourselves. Paige has an incredible voice and the track is super dark so I wanted to keep the integrity of the original but make it a bit more energetic during the drop. I always try to give remixes the structure of songs instead of just words with drops. This track is super listenable, but still goes off live. I’m excited to start playing it in sets.
