Welcome to Episode 03 - straight from the Lock-Down!

This Set is inspired by the awesome and trend-setting sound of Berlin's "KaterMukke" Label.
I think this needs little introduction, as most of us know the sound and style very well.

A couple weeks ago, the sun began to be out more and we started to see just little under 20°C, while my girlfriend and I were stranded in our apartment during lock-down. She was in home-office for a few weeks already, while I just got into it and I needed a nice soundtrack for my work.

Every now and then I hop over to beatport to listen to very label specific music. Each label has  a distinct sound and style for their current releases and I was very curious what's happening in the scene right now.

So I checked out KaterMukke and noticed their #SaveTheDuck. A bit puzzled I found that a lot of clubs are doing fundraising to get through these troubling times. In this case, the "Duck" is - of course - the Sisyphos Club.

One reason the this set was inspired by their sound, but I think it's a great way to support the clubs we love so much that we almost live in them. In the same way we support friends and family however we can, let's keep our culture alive as well.

Abandoned warehouse have a feel and atmosphere which is strongly connected and related to techno's early years - back in the days when it was a pure underground genre. Seeking out places to host illegal events these old brick-buildings have been the first choice for the emerging generation of clubbers.

The warehouse and other old, forgotten industrial complexes have become the signature image for heavy, (at that time) unconventional music genres and the endless nights of music for raving masses of joy. Not only for Techno and House but also genres like Drum'n'Bass, jungle and breakbeats did they give a place to grow and prosper.

To this day I remember the first time the gang and I went to a party like this. It wasn't an illegal event, but they truly captured the vibe. It was a drum'n'bass party  in cologne which was held in an old red-brick building, tinted windows, paintings on the walls, rust and all the dirty goodness you would imagine. We parked the car and as we moved closer we began to subs. First we felt it, then we heard and as we got closer we noticed the bass made the tinted windows shake and rattle. At the entrance we started to hear waves of drums rolling through the building, synths, basslines so low - we exchanged excited looks and stepped inside. It was an amazing night. We danced, fully emerged in the sound and were changed for the rest of our lives.

I like to give a little credit to those times with this live-performance which is my take on the "Warehouse Style Techno". To me it's Techno in one of its purest forms. "Just make the people dance and have them do it to sounds that the world never ever heard before."

You'll be hearing a lot of heavy beats, acid infused synth-lines, chords in pleasant moll-harmony and atonal dissonance. 909-kicks with plenty of reverb (yes, I put reverb on my kicks! This is techno - not pop-music! If it sounds great, who cares?), distorted claps, snares and all sorts of sounds our parents don't want you to listen to.
