“Nobody’s Groovy Anymore” is a sprawling seven-minute epic from Icelandic post-rock collective Laxá & Heima Kvartett, teetering on the edge of prog. The track builds from a foundation of shimmering guitars and insistent pizzicato strings, anchored by Bjarne Guðjohnsen’s thunderous dub-tinged basslines. There’s a restless energy in the shifting time signatures and layered instrumentation—Matthias Helguson’s drums drive the track forward while Mike Taylor’s keys offer both shimmer and shadow. The Heima Kvartett—Lisbeth Heima, Sif Árnadóttir, Natasha Guðmundsdóttir, and Ída Sigurðardóttir—pull the piece in and out of tension with sweeping strings and sudden stabs, making for a journey that feels both cinematic and deeply alive. The groove may be gone—but something stranger, wilder, and far more expansive has taken its place.
