Joe Morris - Subaquatic
Higher Love Recordings

The label that sits by the Sussex coastline is Higher Love Recordings, embracing all things Balearic, be it in the club or watching the sun come up on a warm and sandy beach. Joining forces with respected DJ and producer of some spectacularly fine electronica over the last few years - Joe Morris, with his delicately titled ‘Angels of Love EP’.

 

This Leeds lad is a well known DJ and Promoter on the city’s illustrious dance music circuit, having been involved in the underground music scene for over twenty years. His inimitable style favours a melodic touch, using his experience to craft emotive atmospheres from dance-floor to chill out scenarios. Morris has carved out his own niche, one which is gentle, melody laden and rich in atmosphere. Joe's style is sometimes melancholic, often euphoric, yet forged in deeply emotive textures and musicianship. And so it continues with 'Angels Of Love',  a welcome outing on Brighton's increasingly essential Higher Love imprint. The four tracks encompass Joe's production mantra by deftly weaving together ultra deep spacey house music that infuses warm ambience and new age sonics. 

 

Opening with the title cut ‘Angels of Love’, the sunrise and dawn chorus atmospherics combine to a whispered vocal before locking into a classic dream house, Voodoo Ray-esque groove.  ‘Moments In The Snow’, with it's twinkling stars FX, gentle cosmic keys and soft percussive elements, lead to a euphoric arpeggio that elevates the track above the heavens. ‘Solina’ takes us to the far reaches of the cosmos; it's deep sub bass, M1 harps and soaring pads drift over the swinging broken beat groove for an otherworldly journey.  Closing track ‘Subaquatic’ continues the languid, deep tone by concluding the collection with a tropical atmosphere and alluring keys melting into heavenly strings and chimes that help us all to float away to a new age dream.

His latest EP, Dreamweaving was released on April 16th 2021 with a psychedelic, dubbed out feel - and you can look forward to a bunch of remixes coming out soon from Prins Thomas, Ray Mang & Perel. 

He really enjoyed putting this mix together as we did listening to it and as you can hear he doesn’t follow any rules adding a twist of disco, afro, jazz, dub, psych, house and electro in this mix

Rąžė Radio Mix 020: Balsys

The Shizzle is a weekly radio program on 99.9 BAY FM (Byron Bay) exploring a diverse range of music from the now, yesterday and tomorrow.  A show that touches on  psychedelia, techno, post punk, disco, house, leftfield electronic music, downbeat, world exotica & more. I have a very loose music policy - if I like it I play it.

I am a passionate dj and music fan who is happiest playing to an adventurous dance floor. Originally from Melbourne I now call the Byron Shire home. In Melbourne I presented various electronic music radio shows on 3PBS FM, was a founding member of the Global Eyes music/art project and a regular fixture on Melbourne’s underground dj scene spinning at intimate affairs through to clubs and larger festivals including Earthcore,  Rainbow Serpent & The Eclipse Festival.
