We're extremely pleased to deliver the next edition of our mix series, in the form of this 3 hour chugging masterclass from Leeds legend John Paynter (@yeadonred).

With his origins in Punk bands and the social phenomenon that was acid house, John has been there and seen it all. 

The journey eventually led to the beginning of his DJ career at Outlaws Yacht Club in Leeds, then soon after was playing regular warm ups for a certain Andrew Weatherall at Todmorden's Golden Lion. 

John currently runs a record label, party and online music community known as Paisley Dark, which shines a light on the current zeitgeist of post punk inspired dance music in Leeds and further beyond, whilst regularly operating charity fundraisers for Shelter.

In the echoing chambers of music's twilight, lurks the elusive Rune - a spectral DJ of cosmic vibrations. Since '79, Rune has plundered the vinyl archives, tracing melodies through time's murky depths. From '83, he's been spinning tales in the shadows, an insatiable seeker of sonic enlightenment.

With each beat, Rune conjures a symphony of mystery and allure, infecting the airwaves with infectious rhythms and clandestine cadences. His Universal Beats channel serves as a clandestine portal, unveiling unearthed treasures to the intrepid seekers of auditory transcendence.

Yet, it's in the dimly lit dens of Denmark and Sweden's cultural haunts where Rune's enigmatic aura truly captivates. There, amidst the pulsating throngs, he weaves his sonic sorcery – an alchemical blend of acid, dub techno, and the pulsating beats of yesteryears. In the world of Rune Cosmic, the past and present converge in a hypnotic dance, echoing whispers of forgotten eras and electrifying rhythms.

Tonight I have something special to share and that’s a mix from US producer, musician and composer McLean Macionis aka Alighted. The mix reflects his wide scope of artistic interests! Over the years, Mclean has written music for television shows; worked as a sound designer, released his own music, designed and built his own instruments and I know he feels like he’s only getting started. His mix touches on everything from dance, jazz, experimental, film and video game scores and I know listeners of this show are going to love it as much as I do.

McLean Macionis is a forward-thinking composer and producer whose solo and collaborative works live at the intersection of music, engineering, and the human experience. He currently releases music under the moniker Alighted and as one half of the electronic music duo NMND and operates a record label called Garden Broom Recordings based in upstate New York. In 2023, he released on Kompakt , Palette Recordings and his own music on Garden Broom Recordings. The Shizzle is a weekly radio program I present on 99.9 BAY FM (Byron Bay) exploring a diverse range of music from the now, yesterday and tomorrow.  Touching on  psychedelia, techno, post punk, disco, house, leftfield electronic music, downbeat, world exotica & more. I have a very loose music policy - if I like it, I play it.

I am a passionate music fan who is happiest playing to an adventurous dance floor. Originally from Melbourne I now call the Byron Shire home. In Melbourne I presented various electronic music radio shows on 3PBS FM, was a founding member of the Global Eyes music/art project and a regular fixture on Melbourne’s underground dj scene spinning at intimate affairs through to clubs and larger festivals including Earthcore,  Rainbow Serpent & The Eclipse Festival.
