De Gulden Snede series evolved as a medium through which we could shed light on genuine artists pushing forward the stylistic barriers of electronic music. As the years progressed so has this noble concept. 
For the second installment, De Gulden Snede Vol. II, we seek to share with our audience the sounds, ideas, and artistic movements (music and visual art) weíve been exploring over the past year. Besides the altruistic tendencies, this compilation serves as a platform to showcase emerging artists, beat makers and producers associated with INI Movement. De Gulden Snede Vol. II is a testament to the hard work and creative perseverance of featured artists. On a broader level, this compilation is a curatorial statement to the sound of our label.

In the spirit of unity and art of sharing, we have curated this compilation with immense pleasure as a sound marker in time. With the sun setting on 2013, we invite you all to savor this aural treat. Gulden Snede Vol. II is INI Movement’s 14th release, out on all streaming platforms, downloadable on Bandcamp and Soundcloud for free as of 28th December 2013.

Producer and multi-instrumentalist Piper Street Sound, aka Matt Mansfield of Atlanta, Ga, returns with Barrier Island. Dedicated to the imperiled Cumberland Island, this work reflects Mansfield's deep love for Georgia's wild places and the inspiration found there.  

This is music for runs through foggy dawns. Four instrumental pieces of nuanced electronic production afloat within a cloud of Dub effects and natural soundscapes. Sonic suggestions of water, birds, and insects feature throughout, culminating in the end piece ‘al·lu·vi·al’, an exploration into dripping rhythms and splashes of Dub-infused spring reverb.  Piper Street's stock-and-trade multi-layered mechanical tapestry approach is here woven with acoustic instruments and hand played percussion. Mansfield’s last few works had a dizzying effect while Barrier Island shows the producer in a more intimate, personal light. Where once were strident flourishes, now are found slowly-dawning epiphanies. Dark themes that on earlier work seemed ominous, here are more plaintive. This is an EP of quiet beauty, tinged with an urgent plea for ecological balance. 

Cumberland Island, the inspiration for this EP, is one of the last undeveloped barrier islands on the East Coast. Once owned in turns by the Spanish military, plantation-based agricultural concerns, and Gilded Age robber barons, the bulk of the island was gifted in perpetuity to the National Parks Department to remain a wild, undeveloped National Seashore in 1972. Cumberland Island is at the time of this writing in danger of being carved up and developed. Disruption of the aquatic and avian species and their food sources that season on and around Cumberland Island would have disastrous effects on a global scale.

"Aura" was born from two trips to India.
In 2011 I was able to meet several artists, journalists and members of the Bangalore music world, in the state of Karnataka, India. In that first opportunity I made recordings randomly, without knowing why. 
In 2013 I was invited by bangaloREsidency, of the Goethe Institut Bangalore, to serve in a residency together with a group of artists of different nationalities. That last time I traveled accompanied by Iohanna, my wife, and we were again in Bangalore, but also in several cities in the state of Kerala: Fort Kochi, Alleppey (Alappuzha) and Trivandrum (Thiruvananthapuram).

Both times, I captured a large number of recordings of different spaces. Of TV programs, of what played on the radio, what I heard on the streets while on walks, which I captured as a spectator in various concerts. I took samples delving into complete discographies of artists from India, some well known and others who I came across by luck, in an archive of music ranging from religion-based to more popular music: what plays from the stereo systems of the tuk-tuk, songs from the movies. I also used several layers extracted from sound collections.

After searching and searching for a place from which to begin composing, I found three axis lines that intersect today in the "Aura" tracks:

A - Dreams as a playing field: since it is impossible to mentally hold the information collected in India linearly, not even involving my own experiences, I decided to lay out the music with the same logic as that of the world of dreams. 
Many of the central ideas of "Aura" were born from this conception of a "dreamscape"; such as the overall sound of the album, generally very low in tone, with few highs, dub, acuatic and atmospheric.

B - Trance as an organic composition: avoiding the obvious analogy (from a Western perspective) that occurs between "Indian music" and "trance", the notion of a hypnotic sound revealed itself as an opportunity that is much more, giving me the opportunity to explore and add different stylistic and sound worlds to the tracks. Thus, the pieces slowly began to be dressed in very distant elements but that take force from the same energy: acid, IDM, ambient, noise, minimalism, progressive sequences, climates of tension, etc.

C - Individuality and unity, all in one body: emphasizing the idea of "unity and multiplicity in a single entity" present in different visions of India, the tracks are composed by lots of sounds, sometimes touching on saturation . But within that complexity, an interlacing emerges that presents a double vision in which music can be read as a whole, or in which it is also possible to differentiate between different threads.
In that sense, a sound created with a synthesizer is as equally important as a sitar or car horn, and they can be heard separately. But together they shape a whole that has its own voice, the body of a new entity. Collage leaves its seams in plain sight.

"Aura" was created from various random ideas and from playing with the sensuality of the sounds. It is not at all intended to truthfully emulate the rhythmic or compositional forms of India. I am far from being familiar enough to propose something like that. 
Regardless, I hope that something from those trips shows itself playing in the music. That the wonderful people that I was able to meet can be found between these distorted pictures, and that they can enjoy the image.

Nickodemus' last album "A Long Engagement" was released May 2018 and made its way around the World’s listening devices & dancefloors via dj’s and an extensive tour. Now he's back with a remix album that takes the original recordings back into the clubs with slow rolling remixes from both Chancha Via Circuito & Lagartijeando as well as soulful house mixes from DJ Spinna,  Pablo Sanchez  & Sammy Bananas.  Bosq (Whiskey Barons) takes his mix of “Livin' Your Dream” to heavy afro-reggae disco, while Sagaan (Andreas Saag) pushes “The Crow” into deep Detroit analog territories. Also weighing in are Umoja, who strip down “Mystic Molay” featuring Innov Gnawa, and The Spy from Cairo, with a cosmic electro-disco version of “Inmortales” featuring Fémina. The overall global fusion that Nickodemus is known for was taken to another level into the clubs by these carefully chosen producers.

An album of music inspired by the song of endangered birds with 100% of the profits going towards organisations working to protect them.

"A Guide to the Birdsong of Mexico, Central America & the Caribbean” is the second Volume in the series following on from "A Guide to the Birdsong of South America", originally released on Robin's label Rhythm and Roots. Volume I raised nearly 15,000 USD for two birding organisations and featured artists like Nicola Cruz, Dengue Dengue Dengue and Chancha Via Circuito.

For this second edition we have shifted focus north of the equator and to the vulnerability of bird species like the Momoto Carenado (Nicaragua), Ferminia (Cuba) and the Jamaican Blackbird (Jamaica), birds who have dwindled in numbers as a result of the environmental repercussions of climate change, deforestation and trapping for the pet trade.

For the album we chose 10 endangered or threatened bird species and challenged 10 of our favourite producers or musicians from the region. Working with the Xeno Canto birdsong community and the Macaulay Library, we sourced a recording of each bird’s song. Each artist was then asked to create an original piece of music inspired by the bird and its song.

In line with out vision at Shika Shika the curation of artists is specifically geared towards those bridging connections between traditional music and modernity, or between organic and electronic sounds. There are contributions from artists in eight different countries, ranging from Jamaica’s organic dancehall trio Equiknoxx, to Dj Jigüe, one of the leaders of Cuba’s burgeoning electronic scene. Belize’s critically renowned Garifuna Collective have been bringing the unique Garifuna culture and language to a global audience for many years, while Tamara Montenegro has quickly become one of Nicaragua’s leading female electronic producers.

The project would not have been possible without the support of an incredible Kickstarter community, helping us raise £12,599 in August 2019.

Once the costs of production have been covered, all of the proceeds from this album will be donated to Birds Caribbean, La Asociación Ornitológica de Costa Rica and Fundacion TXORI in Mexico. All profits from the sales of the record, music streaming, poster and t-shirt will be shared between these organisations who focus on engaging local communities to help improve and grow the bird tourism sector, create awareness of vulnerable birds with young people and crucially, provide rescue, rehabilitation and breeding programmes.
