Andy Gibson's songs are a musical autobiography. Hopeful, cathartic, born of mental health struggles and breakthroughs. 

Andy Gibson released his first full-length album 'Behind the I' in 2007 on She'll Be Right Records. Featuring the skills of some of New Zealand's finest musicians, several singles from the album received significant airplay on NZ radio (especially on Radio New Zealand National and Kiwi FM) and the release was followed by two years of touring and gigging with the Andy Gibson Collective. 

Notable gigs from this era include the 'Behind the I' album launch gig at the Dog's Bollix, which was opened by a young Kimbra, and playing a support set for Don McGlashan at Zoo Music in Auckland.

2009 saw the independent release of Night Rolls Open, a fully self-produced album fusing experimental production ideas with heartfelt songs. The singles 'Gracious Pirouette' and 'Scales' were again picked up by Radio New Zealand National and Kiwi FM.

After a long hiatus for the PhD, Andy began releasing music again in 2024, with the singles "Well Done" and "The Rules".  

Also a sociolinguist, Andy's PhD explored the pronunciation of singing as compared to speech, considering the reasons for the dominance of American-influenced singing accents.
