12. Quills & Characters Exhibition

Chawton House celebrated its 20th anniversary of preserving and promoting early women's writing, from 13th to 16th July 2023. 

Lizzie Frisby talks to Curator & Collections Manager Emma Yandle about the arrival of a special acquisition that coincided with the anniversary. 

Then, Dr Clio O'Sullivan chats to a whole range of speakers and guests who joined for the celebrations: best-selling author and headline speaker - Gill Hornby, former Post-doctoral Fellow in Women's Writing (1680-1830)- Professor Jennie Batchelor, Chawton House Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Southampton - Dr Gillian Dow and former visiting fellow Dr Alison Daniell.

14. What's in store for 2024?

Find out all about the Evening Orchard Wassail at Chawton House with Lizzie Frisby. It's a centuries’ old Twelfth Night apple-growing celebration, involving hearty singing in the orchard to encourage a bountiful harvest in 2024, led by the Wassail Queen. 

Lizzie narrates and explains the evening and chats to the Wassail Queen (Dr Clio O'Sullivan). Plus, you can hear inserts from the Kings Pond Shantymen who provided some lively traditional songs at the occasion.

15. Evening Orchard Wassail 2024

Hey there babber! Richard McCourt and Dominic Wood, AKA Dick and Dom, join Lizzie Frisby to kick off The UK Series of An Idiot with Idioms by sharing local and regional sayings from their hometowns of Sheffield and Exeter. Along the way we hear of a Dick & Dom exclusive for the year to come, a surprise appearance from Dom’s dog Pickles and a completely serious discussion of the duo's completely serious and nationally acclaimed game, BOGIES!

Dick and Dom are Children’s TV presenters, well known for the double BAFTA Award winning Dick N Dom in Da Bungalow, which provided entertainment for kids across the country between 2002-2006. They also presented on the Children's BBC Broom Cupboard in the late ‘90s, were presenters on Radio 1, host The Dick & Dom Debate Podcast and are DJs!
