Nuestro Planeta co-founder, DJ @lizzy-nice has been carving out more representative and diverse spaces in her local Melbourne scene with her events while establishing herself as an exciting, genre-noncomforming, invigorating DJ. We fell in love with her bass-heavy, percussive-sprinkled yet light and, hip-hop infused sets and couldn't wait to invite her to supply the latest Body Mix. 10 minutes in and we we're already sweating! Number forty four presented by one of my favourite artists of late, @niconiquo . After seeing Nico play a flawless live set at a @musiccompanyco at the Meat Market a few weeks ago, I then went on to discover his plethora of stunning works, which he's been releasing since 2015. The local Melbourne/ Naarm producer has featured on labels Orange Milk Records (with another album on the label slated for later this year),  Daisart and Music Company, and also works under the alias Haji K.

How did you get your DJ name?

I was messing around with a friend, and we were laughing at how absurd this name would sound on a line up.

Fav bpm and why?

140 is the bpm I am truly comfortable in. If I go higher I am ramping it up. Slower than 140bpm is basically downtempo

What is your favorite party/collective where you reside and why?

Climax - these women are making their own space and crafting their own vibe in the current techno paradigm. Their mission and ethics are on point, while their music tastes reside outside of time.
3 X L - the existence of ambient influencers has been confirmed

What do you think future generations will think about the 2022 sound?

What would you like to see in the future for the dance community?

Post capitalism. Humans gathered all the gun supply on Earth, loaded it on a big spaceship and sent it off into the cosmos. The rich are abolished. Reparations have been paid. Therapy has been mandatory for yt men for a few decades now. There is no such thing anymore as a “bedroom producer”, we record our music directly from our brains. Rave Etiquette and Rave History are the subjects studied in middle-school. There is no talk at the raves in the front of the dance floor - we have telepathy for that. DJing as a craft remains the same because it has always been ahead of its time.

A pillar of the Melbourne/Naarm music scene, Jennifer Loveless  ( @jenniferloveless ) has been making waves locally and abroad for some time now. Having originally moved to Melbourne via Toronto, she's become known for her diverse, banging and unique productions on labels such as Butter Sessions, Planet Euphorique, Pure Space & Body Verse

Her talent also shines through in a her insanely busy DJ schedule and varying, but equally impressive multitude of mixes.

Her aura is bubbly, playful and unique, but what really shines through is her true passion for her craft.

I’ve told this story before but this time I have a mix to go with it so I’ll tell it again…Twenty years ago, during the early noughties when garage was mutating into grime I DJ’d in a crew with a load of mc’s called Riot Squad. We thought we were Nottingham's version of the Pay As U Go Cartel.

UK music was super fertile around those years and this was the first little pocket of my record buying “career” I found myself truly obsessed with. Parties, tape packs and radio was starting to get muckier with the focus shifting to MC’s. You could smell the influence that infamous little club up the road in Sheffield had on me a mile off and while the roots were starting to poke through, dubstep was still a few years away.. 

Decided to record a mix of the records I was playing up here during those times. Some of them are well known, some of them I don’t even know what the fuck they are. All bangers though and all have been getting played for nearly 20 years so excuse the noise, crackles and pops. x
