Sous Music is the new label of DJ, producer and broadcaster Anja Schneider. A creative project where anything is possible and everyone is invited.

"Sous will be the most personal project of my career. The name comes from my family and connects me to my roots - which for me, has provided the foundation for my lifelong passion and career in music. My family has supported me at every stage of my career and I would not be here without them. Likewise, every single key relationship in my life has come about through music. Brett Johnson's sound is best known as groovy, bumping house with a hearty dose of techno elements, crafted and mixed in a way that is truly identifiable as his own. Whether DJing or creating music, his wild card is an ability to inject warmth and soul into his electronic sound. The result is an impressive discography filled with unique statements, otherworldly surprises, and undeniable club stompers.

Releasing his first record in 1999 on the now-defunct, Aesoteric Records, Brett has released over 100 records and remixes for some of dance music's best labels. The list includes Classic Music Company, Freerange, Crosstown Rebels,  20/20 Vision, Get Physical, Visionquest, Magnetic, Cynosure, Edible, F-Communications, Seasons; the list goes on and on. Aside from a busy remix schedule, Brett is currently releasing his own music on the labels Classic Music Company, Cynosure Recordings and a select group of labels.

Brett's DJ'ing career has had an amazing trajectory over the past couple of decades. He's traveled the world spreading his musical might to revered nightclubs and festivals like fabric in London,  Panorama Bar in Berlin, Rex Club in Paris, Smart Bar in Chicago, Cocoon and the list goes on. Festivals include Scotland's legendary T In The Park, both the 10 Days Off and Dour festivals in Belgium, Les Rencontres Trans Musicales in France, Solar Festival in the Netherlands, together with tours throughout Asia, Australia and beyond.

Producer duo with their own Attitudes To Life imprint.

Anja Schneider is a DJ, producer, radio broadcaster, label boss, tireless creative force and mentor, renowned as one of the hardest working figures within the industry. With a new imprint Sous Music and a critically acclaimed new album ‘SoMe’ highlighting a typically inspired past 12 months, she hits 2018 entrenched as one of electronic music’s most vital artists.

Schneider made her most decisive career move during the summer of 2017 when she announced she’d be closing a long and very successful chapter of her life by stepping away from mobilee, the iconic label she founded in 2005.

In its place, sprouted Sous Music, a deeply personal project named after Schneider’s mother, that allowed her the creative freedom and day-to-day ‘in the trenches’ connection with music after 12 years at the helm of mobilee where she grew the label, agency and collective into one of the most influential brands in underground electronic music.

What would follow was a superb nine-track album ‘SoMe’ in November, that oozed timeless class. DJ Mag crowned it Album of the Month and Mixmag proclaimed it to be ‘a seamless, soulful blend of underground house and techno.’

Rounding out a year of change in 2017, was Schneider’s move to the prime-time Friday night slot at major Berlin broadcaster Radio Eins, with a new weekly show ‘Club Room’. The switch occurred after 17 years with Fritz Radio, where her program ‘Dance Under the Blue Moon’ was responsible for introducing a generation of Berliners to electronic music. Additionally, her radio work extends to weekly shows in France and Belgium on the Radio FG network, reinforcing her status as one of the most astute tastemakers in electronic music.

Over the course of her career, Schneider’s ear for uncovering the ‘next crop’ of outstanding talent has been one of the hallmarks of her influence. She’s well known for giving an early platform to the likes of Maya Jane Coles, Solomun and Nicole Moudaber (on mobilee and its sub label Leena Music), long before they became the household DJ names they are today.

It’s this spirit that lives strong for the woman affectionately (and accurately!) dubbed ‘the perpetual motion machine’ as she constantly strives to discover, create and share this passion through Sous Music, her radio shows and the constant gigging that sees her zig zag across the world each week.

Jimpster Biography 

Taste-maker, label boss, producer, DJ, remixer. Jamie Odell wears many hats and wears them well.

Under his Jimpster alias, he has become one the most revered deep house producer/DJs operating on the scene today.  His esteemed labels Freerange and Delusions of Grandeur continue to help break incredible new music and equally impressive acts such as Detroit Swindle, Tornado Wallace and Session Victim.  From his UK base, Jimpster has inadvertently become a standard-bearer and custodian of the authentic house sound, and carries this flag to the four corners of the world.
 
As he puts it: "House music has been my first love and passion since hearing 'Strings Of Life' for the first time at The Essex Barn in 1988 and I'm still inspired by the memories I have of that period when the whole electronic music scene was so fresh and exciting as well as being really broad and eclectic.  One minute we were listening to Lil Louis' 'The Story Continues' and the next, freaking out to 'Radio Babylon' by Meat Beat Manifesto.  Every track seemed to have its own strong identity and unique sound and I guess that ethos is something I try and carry through to my A&R for the labels.  Certainly as a producer I am still striving to produce that perfect house track which will stand the test of time in the same way that those early classics have.  The blueprint is simple: to inject life, depth, soul, sincerity and attitude. This is what sets the players apart from the pretenders.  That challenge is what keeps me focused and inspired 25 years on and I'm sure it will keep me on my toes for the years to come."
 
His seminal LP 'Messages From The Hub' established Jimpster as an artist of note back in the late 90’s and the music has flowed steadily and consistently since then, mostly on Freerange, with the 2006 excursion 'Square Up' on Ben Watt’s Buzzin Fly label proving to be a (temporary) transfer of one London-based deep house icon to another.
 
Releases such as 'Dangly Panther', 'A Love Like This' and 'Can't Stop Loving' continue to be choice cuts for many DJ's whilst 'These Times' and 'Porchlight And Rocking Chairs', two more recent deep house anthems, were remixed by Dixon and KiNK to serious effect.  2015 shows absolutely no signs of slowing down with the 'English Rose' EP arriving on Freerange in early summer and a new hook-up with Berlin’s Suol label kicking off with a remix of Till Von Sein’s 'Booty Angel'.  It continues with the Jimpster original 'Last Days of Summer' which is due mid summer.
 
Sterjimp? His current stat count as a remixer is touching a century and the acts to receive his midas touch includes everyone from Osunlade (“Mommas Groove” still being hammered by Moodymann on a regular basis), Solomun, Kollektiv Turmstrasse and Josh Wink ('Jus Right' stole the show at Dixon's 2015 Detroit Movement set) through to Bob Marley, Seal and Terrence Parker.  Recent remixes for Detroit Swindle, Paxton Fettel and Da Posse all show that the inspiration is still flowing thick and fast.

As we head deeper into 2015, with Jimpster still doing the business at globally renowned hotspots like Fabric, Air and Watergate, a slew of new music on the way, the ideas flowing freely and with over two decades of experience to draw on we see clearly that the fire is still burning as brightly as ever.
