Take two excellent vocalists, add an Iranian electric guitarist with a penchant for effects pedals, add one drummer with an electronic kit and a mac, throw in a seasoned bass player, a laptop wizard and the occasional violin, mix in some beautifully written songs with catchy choruses and you have music that’s pretty hard to describe but brilliant to listen to.

Black Diamond Bay are a Leeds based 6 piece who, as the line up suggests, bring together a wide array of influences. Is it folkie ? indie ?? electro??? indie folkatronica???? Who knows and does the label really matter?  Like all good music this is unclassifiable What counts is the power of the music and Black Diamond Bay stand out as a band with the live intensity and magnetism to endure for more than the regulatory ‘15 seconds of fame’.Describing themselves as musical magpies, who make off with pieces of genres and ideas that sparkle  melding them into something that is only theirs they have the classic combination of great songs, and consummate musicianship. 

Here’s what he band had to say about I dreamt we were bankrobbers  – I had a dream that I was a bank robber dying in a hail of bullets with my partner by my side. It was a beautiful,filmic dream so we made a song about it. We were experimenting at the time with using the voice as an instrument, cutting up various sounds we made and using them as we might use a guitar or piano. That gave us the hook that starts the song. Tom wrote the piano in his head and programmed it into the computer. He’s always doing that. The coalition of the stuttering vocal hook and the sweeping violins and pianos effects a kind of nervous beauty.

Doing the remix honours this time around we have the talented Planas who delivers a deep dubstep infused version which complement sthe original perfectly Kicking off with Agbekor as his first release on Ranking Records. Planas aka Toby Davies has already acquired a staunch following amongst the dubstep fraternity whilst his involvement with the hotly tipped Gentlemens Dub Club is spreading the word much wider still, whilst his rather special remix of Submotion Orchestra’s Finest Hour brought yet more fans into the fold

Black Diamond Bay already have a colourful history that includes a childhood Eurovision experience, broadcast script writing, being the number one act on a popular Lithuanian website for 2009 and playing the main stage to great acclaim at Kendal Calling, with support coming from BBC Radio Leeds, Kiss, 6 Music and XFM even before they actually released a record

The first single ‘Worship The Sun’ was picked up by Mixmag  featuring in their March podcast it also got 8/10 in iDJ Magazine where the reviewer struggled manfully to explain why the band sounded so good but could only conclude that they just did. More play and support came from BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio 1 , Tom Robinson and Eddy Temple Morris.

Today, Above & Beyond’s overspilling DJ diary reads like a departure board at Heathrow airport. Their debut artist album ‘Tri-State’ sold countless copies worldwide and became a genre classic. Above & Beyond’s songs are sung back to them by tens of thousands of clubbers at the biggest festival stages on the planet and their flagship gigs include launching Richard Branson’s new SpaceShip for Virgin Galactic, rocking 1million people on Rio’s Barra Beach, and a recent sell-out at Brixton Academy. 
Now counting over 200 single releases, an award-winning compilation series and with deeper sub label Anjunadeep in tow, Anjunabeats remains the heartbeat of all Above & Beyond’s activity. To celebrate this landmark release there will be also be a 10 Years of Anjunabeats party at The Gallery (Ministry Of Sound) on Friday 3rd December featuring an Anjunabeats All Stars line up of Kyau & Albert, Mat Zo, Bart Claessen, Oliver Smith and Nitrous Oxide in the Box, and Anjunadeep favourites 16 Bit Lolitas, Jody Wisternoff and James Grant in the 103.

It's amazing to reflect on our progression and how far we've come. Here we are 27 releases later with our first official record! It has almost been a year since we started to compile this project. Since day one we've known that we would get to this very point.

The Time in Between captures genre-bending compositions from creative an entire year, this compilation delivers a timeless journey through future bass, boom bap, glitchy uptempo soulful melodies and then some. Soulection releases the Time in Between putting a time stamp on the unique musical epoch that is 2013. By serving up genre-vague and undefinable sounds to the people first, the label maintains and reinforces the relevance and need for this timeless sound.

These specific artists are all Soulection affiliated and we feel that every track on here has a "timeless' feel to it. In fact, we feel that this record is one that you can play years and years down the line and still get that original feeling of when you first heard it. There tracks have no expiration date; styles that have no flow. This record was created and compiled to change your perspective on music and the future of where we are headed.
