The duo may be familiar to many of our fans through their output on Enhanced and Armada Music. They first made contact in 2018 after regularly supporting each other’s releases. After many collaborations, the Scottish/Italian pairing decided to make it official in 2020, and Alex Sonata & TheRio was born. 

After making their label debut earlier this year on the Anjunabeats Rising Volume 4 with ‘Time’, the duo have two new tracks to share. ‘Are We Dreaming / Higher’ is out now on Anjunabeats.

After two and a half years away from the label, Gabriel & Dresden (Josh and Dave to their friends) return to Anjunabeats with ‘Bias’, as heard on Anjunabeats Volume 16.

Dave Dresden and Josh Gabriel have built an enduring legacy in their 20+ years in dance music. Hailing from the US, the DJ and producer duo helped define the sound of modern dance music with hits like ‘As The Rush Comes’ and ’Tracking Treasure Down.’ They’ve created three essential mixes on BBC Radio 1 and won Best American DJ twice at IDMA Awards – a testament to just how loved and respected this duo are in the UK and beyond. The pair made their ‘The Only Road’ and ‘Remedy’ albums off the back of Kickstarter campaigns released on Anjunabeats in 2017 and 2020 respectively, and their 2018 remix of Cosmic Gate’s ‘Only Road’ was nominated for a GRAMMY.

Although ‘Bias’ is their first release in a while, the pair stayed active during the pandemic with their Club Quarantine lockdown streams. The duo kept millions of people company online, and now they’re doing it in real life with their ‘Gabriel & Dresden and Friends’ US touring concept.

“After spending the pandemic focused on #ClubQuarantine, we were itching to make music again. We decided to do something Josh had wanted to do for many years, build a modular synthesizer to inspire new kinds of creativity in the studio.

After spending months researching which modules to get, we settled on the relatively modest setup that would be our sound palette for making Bias. We were excited to take a more stripped-down approach to making music, as well as not being tied to a computer screen while making it.

When Josh first played the main acid lead, we had a shared excitement for it and immediately started recording an hour of knob tweaking. The result was recorded to six separate channels and then cut and layered in Ableton to create the final track.

Released last September, Jordi van Achthoven and Micha Heyboer’s (aka Tinlicker) debut album ’This Is Not Our Universe’ took our world by storm, jumping to #1 on iTunes Dance upon release. A beautifully crafted journey through Jordi and Micha’s wide-ranging palette of progressive house and trance, the album featured an evergreen remix of alt-J’s ‘Breezeblocks’ as well as vocal singles ‘Lost’ and ’Need You’.

Their subsequent ’This Is Not Our Universe’ tour saw the pair traverse the globe in support of the album, including pitstops at Above & Beyond’s ABGT350 celebrations in Prague and the Anjunabeats UK tour.

Continuing the ’This Is Not Our Universe’ story, we welcome a host of remixes to the label from artists both old and new to the Anjunafamily. Fresh off his latest album ‘Deep State’ and setting up his Deep State Recordings imprint, Scottish producer Grum's progressive outlook on ‘Close Your Eyes’ has been a favourite in both his own and Tinlicker’s recent sets. With several heavy-hitting releases on Anjunadeep as of late, Spanish producer Dosem also joins the fray, contributing a deeper remix of ‘Vanishing’. To round off the package, Utrecht natives Deeparture and Tom Zeta tackle ‘Bird Feeder’ and ‘When The Light Fades’ respectively, whilst French producer and ‘Superset' pioneer Joris Delacroix adds his distinct melodic house flavour onto ‘Lost'.
