P.O.S joins forces with anamē to rework Kyan’s ‘Lonely River’, out now on Anjunabeats.

Putting his faith in the natural world around him, 'Deeper Tales' sees Above & Beyond’s Paavo Siljamäki reconnect with the dance floor, and himself, for his debut solo album under his P.O.S alias.

A songwriter, producer and DJ, Paavo is one-third of the ground-breaking, record-breaking British dance institution Above & Beyond, founders of London-based label Anjunabeats. Double GRAMMY-nominated, RIAA Gold Certified artists, the band has rocked festival stages and iconic live institutions alike, from Glastonbury, EDC, and Creamfields, to the Royal Albert Hall and Madison Square Garden.

However, the last five years have seen Paavo face a succession of personal and health-related challenges, including several battles with Covid. “I had a burnout, basically. I just couldn’t see what I wanted to do. And after my burnout, I was like: what is dance music to me? I don’t really know even if I like it. I’ve heard – I’ve written – too many build-ups! So I thought: that’s me done,” Paavo says. 

Finding solace in nature, inspiration rekindled; first with Above & Beyond’s ambient album ‘Flow State’, and then a return to dance floor-orientated sounds. “There’s no feeling of freedom like being at sea,” he adds. “When I’m sailing, I synchronize with the sunrise and sunset – we almost always get up at sunrise. So this is like being really aligned with nature. I found that, after my burnout, and Covid, I really found myself in nature. There’s something about being closer with nature that is really healing – and very inspiring.”

Now living on board the Swedish boat he now calls home, Paavo re-immersed himself into the club culture that had first caught his imagination as a 15-year-old rave kid, from the dance floors of Ibiza to the desert raves of Burning Man. His 'Deeper Tales' album reflects his experiences of late; soulful, heart-on-sleeve club records with many debuted during Above & Beyond’s Group Therapy 500 and Anjunadeep Open Air L.A. celebrations last autumn.

The lead single from 'Deeper Tales’ pairs P.O.S with anamē for an adaptation of ‘Lonely River’ by Kyan. UK-based Kyan Kuatois’s chart-topping discography includes collaborations with Duke Dumont on ‘Need You (100%)’ and Madeon on his 2015 hit track ‘You’re On’, which has since racked up over 72m streams on Spotify.

anamē is the new project from Marcus Schössow (previously one-half of gardenstate) and Thomas Sagstad. The pair burst onto the scene in 2022 with an emotive collaboration with Above & Beyond and Marty Longstaff on ‘Gratitude’, club anthem ‘Influencer’ with BLR and Robbie Rise, plus reworks of classic ‘Burma’ by Lostep, and Conjure One and Sinéad O’Connor’s ‘Tears From The Moon’.

Born in a studio jam in Los Angeles in late 2021, 'Polar Bears' is a collaboration with DJ and producer Spencer Brown. Paavo and Spencer's friendship stretches back to 2014, when the budding producer caught the ear of Above & Beyond with his debut release 'Chalice' on Avicii's imprint LE7ELS. A versatile talent, Spencer's impressive portfolio includes two mixed albums on Anjunabeats plus releases on Anjunadeep, mau5trap and Sasha's Last Night On Earth. In 2022, Spencer launched his own label, diviine.

Bookending the double A-side is 'Thunder & Sunshine', a fan favourite from Above & Beyond's Anjunabeats Volume 16 mix compilation from summer 2022. Both tracks were played by A&B in their now-legendary set for Cercle atop Piedra del Peñol, Colombia.

Above & Beyond's Paavo Siljamäki shares 'Let You Go', from his upcoming album as P.O.S, 'Deeper Tales'.

Arriving on 21st April on Anjunabeats, the 'Deeper Tales' project sees Paavo reconnect with the dance floor, and himself. The album reflects his experiences of late; soulful, heart-on-sleeve club records with many debuted during Above & Beyond’s Group Therapy 500 and Anjunadeep Open Air L.A. celebrations last autumn.

One of those records is 'Let You Go', a french trance-house hybrid created on holiday in Cozumel, Mexico (Paavo originally titled the track 'Waking Up in Cozumel'), channelling the feeling of flying underwater. A heartfelt addition to 'Deeper Tales', the track received airtime during A&B's Group Therapy 500 main set at a sold-out Banc of California Stadium, Los Angeles.

In support of 'Deeper Tales', Paavo is currently embarking on phase one of his album tour, visiting some of his favourite clubs across North America. Tickets for all remaining dates are on sale now (https://anjunabeats.co/posdeepertalestour.OOW), with more dates to be announced.

Double GRAMMY-nominated, RIAA Gold Certified artists, the trio have taken iconic festival stages and legendary live venues by storm, from Glastonbury, EDC, and Creamfields, to the Royal Albert Hall and Madison Square Garden.

But over the past five years, Paavo grappled with a number of personal and health-related difficulties, including several battles with Covid. “Basically, I had a burnout. Nature gave Paavo a sense of renewed purpose. It first inspired his work on Above & Beyond’s ambient album ‘Flow State’, and later drew him back onto the dance-floor. “There’s no feeling of freedom like being at sea,” he adds. “When I’m sailing, I synchronize with the sunrise and sunset – we almost always get up at sunrise. So this is like being really aligned with nature. I found that, after my burnout, and Covid, I really found myself in nature. There’s something about being closer with nature that is really healing – and very inspiring.”

After spending years behind the decks on stage, Paavo reflected on his experiences as a teenage rave kid, and felt compelled to dance in the heart of the crowd at the desert raves of Burning Man and clubs in Ibiza. His 'Deeper Tales' album embodies these recent experiences; uplifting, emotive club records with many debuted during Above & Beyond’s Group Therapy 500 and Anjunadeep Open Air L.A. celebrations last autumn.

Paavo has already amassed millions of streams on his ‘Deeper Tales’ album singles to date, with ‘Polar Bears’ peaking at #6 in the Beatport Progressive House Chart.
