Music has always been something me and my mate always bonded with and I feel it is only right to create a song in his memory. All the money will go towards Mind charity. To anyone who has lost someone they cared about to suicide I hope you know you are not alone and talking about it seems small but can go a long way.

Rivergazer is the nom de plume of London-born, New York-bred songwriter, Kevin Farrant. Since 2011 he has quietly self-released demos and an EP entitled, Oh My Ego, and played in a variety of bands including guitar with childhood friend Aaron Maines’ Porches. (Exploding In Sound).

On Random Nostalgia, Rivergazer’s first full length studio album being released August 12th, Farrant teamed up with producer Hunter Davidsohn and longtime friend and multi-instrumentalist, Kolson Pickard to achieve a bigger conceptual sound. The album tells a tale of modern sadness -- growing up in the suburbs, getting married and divorced, having no money, being in debt, driving mom’s car, friends, isolation, wanting a dog, finding zen, and making memories. Rivergazer has crafted an album that is both thematically relatable and sonically familiar, residing at the intersection of nostalgia and now.

My Attempt

When I discovered that my school had a Moog Sub37 just sitting in the hallway I immediately made it a priority to find a way to use it. I asked a couple of teachers if I could take it to one of the studios and bring it back after I used it, sadly that wasn’t a possibility. So, I decided to drive for about 40 minutes to  bring my studio to the hallway and record some concepts with this beautiful intrument. I used my cousins longboard as a table to set my computer and my audio interface, once I had everything hooked Is at on the floor and was ready to go. It was my first time using one of this beasts and the second I listened to one its oscillators I realized how much I love not just music, but sounds as well. I didn’t have the MIDI cable to sync it to my DAW, making the song more special as the bass line and string are full length performances including the filter and LFO’s movement. Once I got back to my studio I added some synths and percussive instruments using original recordings, samples and my much beloved Korg Volca Beats. I sat on this track for a while not being able to find that missing element that it needed. Life’s weird way of working made me Annabel’s paths crossed each other. What are the chances a Bolivian dude and a British girl meet in the small town of Norman, Oklahoma. I have so many things to say about this girl: the wonderful experience that was working with her and the amazing artist that she is. Anyways, I don’t want to give to much away and I will let the music speak for itself.
