On Monday 3rd January 2022, our dearest and most cherished friend, Karen Wilkins passed away.

While we are overcome with sadness that she is no longer physically with us, we are also overflowing with endless love and immense gratitude for having known her.

She truly was one of a kind, an incredible soul in every possible way, ​and we are so blessed that she was in our lives.

Among so many other things, Karen was an amazing DJ (and resident for London-based Opulence collective), putting her heart and soul, just as she did with everything, into the music she loved so much.

Music bought us together, just as it has so many of others, and so we felt compelled to jump on the decks, something she loved so much to do, to honour her.

In life she taught us so so much, and her passing has reminded us of just how incredibly precious our time on this earth truly is.

We never know what is around the corner and as cliched as it sounds, we must do all that we can to make the most of the time we've been given.

So, throw yourself at the things that light a fire in your soul, that bring your happiness and make you feel alive. Spend time with the people you love. Push through your fears to live wholeheartedly, just as Karen did.

We felt Karen with us throughout this mix, dancing her heart away with the biggest smile on her face, just as she did at many On the 5th Day events, and nights across London, where she made dear friends who all held a special place in her heart.

She was a true inspiration and will certainly live on in our hearts for all time.

MTRL (material) is a versatile art and music project by Lukas Weinlein. Driven by his interest in different ways of artistic expression, he started experimenting with sounds at a young age, tapping into many different styles of music. This insightful journey shaped his current understanding of music and ultimately led him to the endless possibilities of electronic music, inspired by the infinite cosmos and organic voices of nature. Having bonded with a multitude of great artists helped to refine his style and created a sphere of inspiration around him. The name for this specific art project was chosen because the definition of the word material, the matter from which a thing is or can be made, fits the purpose of the project very good. So the aim of MTRL is to create an audiovisual experience from existing or non-existing matter for open-minded brains. Together with Dycide and Polygonia he is one of the minds behind the label IO.

Geek and creativity merged together to give birth to this new project. The duo ALPI was born from two young producers from Bolzano, Daniele Alessi and Gabriel Pivaro. Driven by a visceral love for vinyls and synthesizers, they started their collaboration at the beginning of 2014 and since then have continued to experiment and work in search of a distinctive sound. ALPI’s music, characterized by the use of tribal timbres and hypnotic sounds, draws the listener into a primordial and ritualistic dimension.

Her Bio:
My name is Marija and I am from Latvia. I am mainly a visual artist who loves to draw, paint and make some animation from time to time. But the interest for sound and music has always been. My interest in underground electronic music started from psytrance festivals, where I got pretty much inspired by the people, surroundings, decorations and the music itself. What I listen in the moment depends on my inner state. So after psytrance I decided to cool down a little bit and drew my attention to techno. That was the period where I started practicing mixing, about 3-4 years ago. First I was playing and listening to very raw and dark techno but when I discovered hypnotic and deep techno I found all the elements inside that are important to me. For me it is important that music leads you inside, creating a trip and a safe space where you can forget about your restless mind and worries. Or maybe even when it can be your own therapy to heal from something because dark and light vibes both can be found in this music to reflect on. I get inspired by shamanic archaic and tribal vibes, also eastern aesthetics and philosophy, as a lot of life wisdom can be found inside.
