Em meados dos anos 1990 Salvador viveu uma cena alternativa efervescente, em meio ao auge da axé music dominando todos os espaços possíveis, dominando inclusive a mídia e sendo vendido como “música baiana”, como a verdadeira ou a única música sendo criada e produzida na Bahia, um movimento tão importante quanto, composto por um público significativo e uma infinidade de excelentes bandas que se movimentavam, criavam espaços alternativos e mostravam que a musicalidade baiana não era tão limitada como se vendia ... em um período em que os celulares não eram popularizados, não existiam smartphones e nem redes sociais, a internet era algo novo e nem todos tinham acesso, por conta disso os mensageiros e nem mesmo o MSN era uma realidade, as rádios em sua maioria não davam acesso e visibilidade a nada que não fosse o axé music, mas mesmo assim, na força do boca-a-boca, dos flyers distribuídos na entrada dos shows da semana anterior e dos cartazes colados clandestinamente nos muros e postes de toda a cidade os shows eram quase sempre lotados, o público sabia cantar as músicas das suas bandas favoritas. Não era incomum parar o carro na frente do Casa Blanca, do Idearium, do Café Calypso ou de qualquer outra casa de shows que abriam suas portas para o Rock e perguntar ao segurança ou a qualquer outra pessoa parada na porta do estabelecimento “quem tá tocando aí hoje?” ... era só sair de casa todas as sextas e sábados a noite e escolher onde ir que você assistiria um show de qualidade, se você queria Metal bastava ir no Idearium, se preferia um Rock mais alternativo, no Café Calypso, ambas no Rio Vermelho, mas tinham também as várias casas de show do Pelourinho e alguns outros espaços distribuídos por toda a cidade, tinham espaços na Barra, em Amaralina, na Pituba, em Piatã ...
Houveram nessa época também os festivais, o Garage Rock Festival realizado pela Uivo Produções com suas muitas edições, o Boom Bahia e muitos outros.
A cena foi surgindo no final da década de 1980 e início da década de 1990 com bandas como a Utopia, Texto Base, Diário Oficial, Cravo Negro, Dogma, Circus, Meio Homem, Mutter Marie, Úteros em Fúria e outras que aos poucos foram dando espaço no auge da cena a uma nova geração com bandas como Brincando de deus, Dr.CascaDura,Dead Billies, Lisergia, 2 Sapos e Meio, Inkoma, e muitas outras que sobreviveram até o início dos anos 2000, quando se deu o início do fim da hegemonia do Axé Music e com isso o movimento deixou de ser alternativo, underground, o público foi tomando novos formatos, os shows perderam parte da essência, algumas bandas como The Honkers e Retrofoguetes mantinham seu público cativo, porém na maioria das vezes o público estava mais focado em beber e até mesmo paquerar, as bandas já não importavam tanto.

Mister Shifter teams up with his close friend Fanu yet again, this time on Dispatch Dubplate. Two producers who share a profound love of sampling and manipulating fresh breakbeats, showcase what they do best on this 4-track release.

“Reverse Dawn” from Fanu sets the tone for this release, its otherworldly atmospheres are matched with precision drum work and tense, driving bass. This track was the initial spark that birthed this release. When the contrasting remix from Mister Shifter arrived it was clear they belonged on the same Dispatch Dubplate.

Mister Shifter takes Fanu’s “Reverse Dawn” into bold & contrasting new territory by adding high-powered breakbeats (some courtesy of Paradox and Mako), clever edits, and a floor-quaking bassline. Many of Fanu’s ethereal & moody elements remain intact, letting the remix proudly showcase the finest qualities of each producer.

Mister Shifter - That Dreama Trak VIP - Dispatch Dubplate 022 (OUT NOW)

Ant TC1 along with Hidden Agenda founded Dispatch Recordings back in 2001, Ant originally helped out with the management side of the label before finding his feet within the realms of production; which was a natural progression for him having DJ’d on pirate radio and in clubs from the age of 14 (since 1992).  His first release alongside frequent production partner Stress Level appeared on Dispatch after almost 3 years of hard work getting their collective sound where they felt it needed to be before even thinking about turning on a DAT recorder.  After their first release hit the stores they quickly picked up a wealth of DJ support across their early material and went on to release for a who’s who list of established Drum & Bass record labels including the likes of Renegade, CIA, Advanced, Critical Records Integral, Liquid V, Commercial Suicide, Good Looking Records, Bingo Beats and Samurai Music.

By demand remix work started to feature heavily within their output and the duo went on to remix for the likes of Hidden Agenda, Chris SU, Artificial Intelligence, Kabuki, Total Science, Optical & Ryme Time (Jagged Edge), Atlantic Connection, Tactile & DJ Marky.  Branching out and working with other producers such as Survival, DLR & Philth has only furthered experience Ant’s skills at the controls over the years, Ant has also released his own solo material more recently on top of remixing for the likes of Lomax on Integral Records.  In 2014 Ant realised a lifetime ambition, securing his first ever release for the legendary Metalheadz label “Hungry For Atmosphere” alongside Mako, DLR & Villem with further releases for the label and counting going into 2024.

Ant’s production output has featured on a mass of compilations and mix CD’s compiled by the likes of Shy FX, LTJ Bukem, Total Science, AI, Spectrasoul, Klute and Brian G.  Additionally his work has featured very heavily within the radio shows of Friction, Grooverider, Fabio, Goldie, Bailey & Rene LaVice on their respective BBC Radio 1 slots over the years as well as BBC 1Xtra where Ant once hosted his own one-off 4 hour show, he has since additionally made 2 guest DJ appearances for DJ Friction on his Radio 1 show.  His DJ’ing work has seen him play all over the globe from Adelaide to Los Angeles, from Hong Kong to Sarajevo, Vancouver to Bangkok and last but by no means least regularly UK and EU wide. Additionally for the most part of the decade beyond 2010 Ant also worked as the Artist Manager for both Outlook and Dimensions Festival in Croatia, leading up the booking process, budgets and travel aspects for the festival.

Fast forward through to 2024; Ant is now responsible for the lead label management roles of both Metalheadz & Dispatch Recordings and is based in Thailand, with a purpose built studio room recently finished the plan (alongside managing a mass of planned record label releases) is to get back to focusing on writing music more consistently than he ever has previously.
