Here they strike completely on the money with the hard hitting Funk-led “Sling Blade” and backing up the A side we have a heavy slice of Bristol themed flavour for 2013 with “Grapefruit” (plus an additional extended digital-only version).  Both tracks present a clear nod to the old school and inspirational late 90’s sounds we always loved (but never left!).

Seattle trio Quadrant, Kid Hops, & Iris deliver two inspired and relentless grooves for Dispatch LTD. These three are on a roll right now, and this release demonstrates exactly why.

“Convergence” samples a recognisable little snippet from one of our all-time favourite ‘60s drums: Jimmy McGriff’s 1968 classic ‘The Worm’. The tight drum loop leads things off with serious intention in what becomes one of the darkest, deepest, most rumbling D&B work-outs we’ve been smacked in the face with for some time! The track’s eerie intro effortlessly drags you into the looming heavyweight drop, and the expertly programmed arrangement provides unrelenting energy throughout. The track blew us away on first listen and was an instant no-questions-asked signing for the label!

“Borealis” flips the script completely in comparison to the A side, and is a much lighter themed affair from this outstanding production trio. Expect a more musical synth-led journey on this one, packed with intricate drum shuffles and shifty bubbling b-lines aplenty. This is D&B as we know it, at it’s finest.

Absys Records returns with another 12” in their catalogue, this time filled with dancefloor killers provided by some well known names from all over continent. Representing Netherlands, Fre4knc starts slowly with 'Marching Cube', a heavy rolling stomper that drives your moves directly towards the speakers as this raw piece is progressing. As the cube's march is finished, leaving the room still in motion we come across Berlin based Es.tereo, this time teaming up with Marlyn. 'This Is Where It All Ends' leaves us bouncing between the walls being overwhelmed by haunting vocals, that on the other side bring the feeling of calmness and peace.By flipping the disc we are going into slightly different area. Anile does his take on one piece of Nuage's album, recently realeased on Absys Limited, as he transforms chilled beats and wishful atmosphere of 'Eversky' into a fast 170bpm voyage straight to the dancefloor.

After 15 years and over 30 releases, Toronto native Stranjah is set to release his first full-length LP on DJ Ink’s seminal Architecture Recordings. One of the first producers to gain international acclaim out of Toronto’s storied Drum & Bass scene at the turn of the century, Stranjah (real name Alan Lam) saw his early productions catch the ears of some of D&B’s elite. This lead to releases on foundation imprints like Metalheadz, 31 Records and Flex Records.  His style has always involved incorporating a melting pot of influences and experimenting with the full spectrum of Drum & Bass. “Visionz of a Future” sees Stranjah turning in a whole album centered on the core sounds that got him his initial attention in the nineties. The album’s dark and minimal aesthetic relies heavily on moody, atmospheric overtones with an emphasis on brooding sub bass and pulsating drum patterns, all drenched in a melancholic soul that makes the project just as playable at home on headphones as it does on a huge rig.

Opening cut “Eminence” builds a hazy smoked out groove with head nod bass anchoring languid melodies and chord progression. “Decadence” ups the tempo using steppers beats and garagey tones, combining ravey synth leads and a low growling reese bass that builds the track’s tension as it twists and turns. “Assassinz Redux” continues the Rave theme encapsulating the essence of late night journey sets on a massive system. It’s rolling Jungle vibe, uplifting piano hooks and melodic vocals fit right in pocket with some of Commix and S.P.Y’s similar leaning output. Title track “Visionz Of A Future” employs stark melodies over crashing breaks creating a futuristic, robotic soul soundscape underpinned by lethal sub bass. “Interrogator” feat Evidence slows the tempo down to 140 bpm, a pace that Stranjah’s style fits perfectly with. Low slung, gritty techno tinged dungeon dub that is in direct homage to the brand of dubstep championed by the likes of Youngsta and LX One.  “Changeling” goes down Headz at Bluenote territory combining chunky hardstep breaks with a vicious speaker rattling bassline and chill inducing atmospherics.  A huge dance floor workout and album stand out.  The bass cone pummeling continues on “Krypwok” where Stranjah’s mastery of creating tension and aggression out of minimal components is on full display. B Boy beats, Kilimanjaro subs and spine tingling synths layer up to bruising effect.  “Medusa” feat the gruff vocals of rapper Greezy proves to be an excellent collaboration as Greezy’s rugged voice gels perfectly with Stranjah’s signature moody dub wise. More of this partnership in the future? Teaming up with fellow Toronto producer Evidence again on a half step tip, “Undertow” is just as the title suggests: Murky, submarine bass and lurking bleep textures gel with dubbed vocals and 808 woodblocks. This is another fruitful collaboration whose possibilities excite for the future.  “Sorry” feat Tiff Mak on vocals showcases Stranjah’s proficiency at the 140 bpm tempo once again.  Stuttering bongos, swampy bass and eerie analogue grit create the perfect backdrop for Tiff Mak’s mournful crooning.  Finishing on a style near and dear to Stranjah’s past body of work, “Amen Fury” is exactly as it sounds.  Dark side Jungle chords build to high pass amens before the full power of the break is unleashed with a destructive combination bass line that rips through your whole body. The MC doesn’t need to call for it, as rude boys scream their throats raw and slap which ever flat surface they can reach: Pull UP!

“Visionz of a Future” culminates a decade and a half of production skill and musical exploration into one concise package that reminds you of the beast lurking within the soft spoken kid from Canada.  The vision of the future for Stranjah is simple:  Endless contributions to the Bass Music canon and his place set in stone as one of the greatest to ever do it from his well documented city.

Jaydan's signature take on jump up turns heads in any set, and the new Journeys EP is no exception. Heavyweight vibes lace the six track collection and will be sure to keep even the hardest DnB heads going into the early hours. 

The euphoric opening of 'Thrillseekers' sets the tone, quickly stepping into murkier territory with fat low-ends and screeching highs blended in with a stunning vocal hook. 'Late Night Drive' wades in deeper currents, an undeniable bass swell takes centre stage with the producer opting for the minimal route with maximum effect. Similarly the frantic bedlam of 'Lonely Days' seems just as effortless, a hint of the junglist bleeds through whilst still keeping the lid on a menacing bassline. 'Menace' equally smashes it and certainly one to look out for in the crates of the Playaz camp. '1952' reveals the true extent of Jaydan's production capabilities, an all together more laid back approach, jazz samples and down-tempo feel offer the perfect wind down after a heavy night. Last but definitely not least the Annix lads take the reins on 'The Driller Killer', their stamp the final touches to an affirmed stomper.

Bringing intelligently dark drum and bass to the masses is a difficult job, but somebody's gotta do it. This time Mortem takes Demand's hot seat to encourage two tracks with the hard-hitting firepower and sub pressure of a depth charge.
Utilising old school flavours for “Malfunction” while maintaining that technical bite, writhing rhythms are sucked in through his unique sampling vortex to create a track that's all about movement. Multi-layered and thick with attitude, its behemoth of a bassline is barely contained by intricately woven techy percussion.
As one of drum & bass' most reliable sources of prolific high quality, Mortem rises above the rest time and again with his unique take on deep, intelligent beats. This release showcases his love for depth, texture and movement but also his capacity for creativity, which comes in droves.

Drumsound & Bassline Smith Ft Youngman - DJ Hype World Exclusive Premiere

Ant TC1 along with Hidden Agenda founded Dispatch Recordings back in 2001, Ant originally helped out with the management side of the label before finding his feet within the realms of production; which was a natural progression for him having DJ’d on pirate radio and in clubs from the age of 14 (since 1992).  His first release alongside frequent production partner Stress Level appeared on Dispatch after almost 3 years of hard work getting their collective sound where they felt it needed to be before even thinking about turning on a DAT recorder.  After their first release hit the stores they quickly picked up a wealth of DJ support across their early material and went on to release for a who’s who list of established Drum & Bass record labels including the likes of Renegade, CIA, Advanced, Critical Records Integral, Liquid V, Commercial Suicide, Good Looking Records, Bingo Beats and Samurai Music.

By demand remix work started to feature heavily within their output and the duo went on to remix for the likes of Hidden Agenda, Chris SU, Artificial Intelligence, Kabuki, Total Science, Optical & Ryme Time (Jagged Edge), Atlantic Connection, Tactile & DJ Marky.  Branching out and working with other producers such as Survival, DLR & Philth has only furthered experience Ant’s skills at the controls over the years, Ant has also released his own solo material more recently on top of remixing for the likes of Lomax on Integral Records.  In 2014 Ant realised a lifetime ambition, securing his first ever release for the legendary Metalheadz label “Hungry For Atmosphere” alongside Mako, DLR & Villem with further releases for the label and counting going into 2024.

Ant’s production output has featured on a mass of compilations and mix CD’s compiled by the likes of Shy FX, LTJ Bukem, Total Science, AI, Spectrasoul, Klute and Brian G.  Additionally his work has featured very heavily within the radio shows of Friction, Grooverider, Fabio, Goldie, Bailey & Rene LaVice on their respective BBC Radio 1 slots over the years as well as BBC 1Xtra where Ant once hosted his own one-off 4 hour show, he has since additionally made 2 guest DJ appearances for DJ Friction on his Radio 1 show.  His DJ’ing work has seen him play all over the globe from Adelaide to Los Angeles, from Hong Kong to Sarajevo, Vancouver to Bangkok and last but by no means least regularly UK and EU wide. Additionally for the most part of the decade beyond 2010 Ant also worked as the Artist Manager for both Outlook and Dimensions Festival in Croatia, leading up the booking process, budgets and travel aspects for the festival.

Fast forward through to 2024; Ant is now responsible for the lead label management roles of both Metalheadz & Dispatch Recordings and is based in Thailand, with a purpose built studio room recently finished the plan (alongside managing a mass of planned record label releases) is to get back to focusing on writing music more consistently than he ever has previously.
