Jesse is on fire, I couldn’t have asked for more here - no surprise as he’s one of the best Indo-jazz sax players of all time. I sent him the loop, broken tabla solo, and some vague thoughts on playing over a stretched jungle-tempo rhythm, and he sent back a 17-min improvisation full of intriguing ideas - multiphonics, rhythmic sophistication, Indian melodic inflections, plenty else. Shades of Raag Bageshri and Kalavati in there, and also of John McLaughlin’s playing in Shakti. Was a dream to cut it up and down into the final solo - stretching notes, splicing melodies together, displacing to find new resolutions over the ambiguous 1-beat, etc. Structure is mine but the ideas are his and they shine out. To be properly mixed and mastered some time.
