False Hearted is about fake friends and broken promises. It’s about feeling deceived and betrayed by people you trust. The overarching theme is feeling a need for vengeance after the realization that they feel no remorse for the hurt they’ve caused. The line “You’d empty me and I would let you” acknowledges my role in allowing this to happen, and this realization shapes the way I interact with people in hopes of protecting myself from further betrayal.    

I added many layers and buildups in the song to give it an aggressive feel. Some of the production characteristics of this song were inspired by listening to Pierce the Veil. The stark bass line leading up to the scream is loosely inspired by Rage Against the Machine. In the studio, I added more monotone audio effects to my vocals in the verse to further contrast with the heavy hitting, open choruses.

Gracchus is a 3-piece progressive metal band made up of Bernhard Schnellmann (vocals and rhythm guitar), Allan Murphy (drums), and Jeff Elrose (lead guitar). Having the most interesting and unique long distance relationship being based in the US and Switzerland, the band is meticulously disciplined to the craft of musicianship while maintaining their human touch, combining the dark with the vulnerable, the serious with the playful, and the heavy with the emotional. 
 
The darkness of life has always been inspiring Gracchus’ works. The band describes their music as pictures of “muted colors with occasional bright lightning strikes,” creating a shelter for those who feel irrelevant and solitary to process emotions and unbearable times through their songs.

After releasing their debut album 'Murder Party' in 2019, Gracchus was thrust into the limelight with international touring, covered by renowned rock magazine Metal Hammer, and honorably chosen as the German Rock Hard’s “Recommendation of the Month.” Since 'Murder Party,' the band has been featured on multiple Apple Music and Spotify hard rock and metal playlists. While the Covid pandemic put a halt to their touring, the band's trajectory accelerated when the band adopted virtual recording sessions and monthly releases. This has led to what is upcoming; their proudest body of work to date.

Upcoming songs, due out in Fall of 2022, "Facelift," "Envidia," and "Misaligned" were written and recorded by the three band members in complete DIY, engineered by Andri Urfer, who has worked with the band since their start, and mastered by Svante Forsbäck, who is known for his work for Rammstein, Volbeat and Apocalyptica.
