“That singular feeling of possibility when hearing a new piece of work that instantly resonates will never get old for me,” Gi Gi told me in an interview earlier in the year. “It’s what I’m always searching for as a listener and selector, and what I strive to one day achieve in my own work as well." 

The Austin-based artist’s statement could be from one of the many like-minded producers making electronic music in the US right now—not least the artist on remixing duties here—but it feels particularly apt when listening to any of the Texas producer's work as Gi Gi or Kept, especially ‘OYC (Jung DJ Remix)’ from the forthcoming Era Mauro Remixes.

On Era Mauro, the US producer directed his focus squarely at the dancefloor. The same is true for most of the remixes on offer here, except for Jung DJ's reinterpretation of ‘OYC’ which falls somewhere in the territory between ambient and techno. The track possesses a lot of the qualities present on the New York producer's recent Lillerne release; there's a kinetic energy to the song—largely down to the immaculately mixed drums—but also a spaciousness that lends itself to a more introspective, solitary environment. Like so much great music to be released by US artists lately including Ben Bondy, Purelink and Pontiac Streator, ‘OYC (Jung DJ Remix)’ lies at the intersection of beats and ambience with no strict adherence to one specific sound or genre, just an honest desire to craft interesting and exciting electronic music people can resonate with. Speaking as a fan, it's safe to say that ‘OYC (Jung DJ Remix)’ succeeds in doing that.

a. I recorded the mix just before the start of spring when things were looking a bit gloomy but that's not reflected in the track selection :)

a. not an object per se but a big fan of the filtered light on the wall that comes in thru the window

Living Room n°33 ~ Jack Hyde

Today, I'm a bit disillusioned. I just gave up. Gave up my alarm-free awakenings and countryside roamings. Instead, I'm back at it. The dull job-routine, logged again on social networks, struggling with words to put together into posts. Scheduling releases which are already 6-months delayed yet not even announced. Paying thousands to the press company with my own savings cuz the latest record is not selling. 
The to-do list draws out and I now wonder why I even put myself into this in the first place.

Okay, breathe. Let's focus and start with the next premiere. Wow cool, a song from pals Angel Hunt & Lou Venturini. Damn, another cool issue of smoked-out rock, freak folk and bedroom experimentations. Taking from their first LP: the same batch of dreamy guitar riffs, along with morning-numb voices and noice beats. To be accompanied by a huge mug of scalding coffee. Well, this day ain't so bad after all, and everything might even be alright. Thanks guys for smoothing it up!
