Let's welcome back our dearest @cafe-de-la-jungle to the thirteenth episode of our Herbarium mix series. We are still swaying in hot memory of our recent QEONE x On Board Music night at OHM Berlin and feel that this mix mirrors some bits of his groovy side which he presented back then.

Cafe de la Jungle chose the Monstera Deliciosa for his musical journey here.
What he says about the connection between this plant and his mix: 
The monstera plant's ability to thrive in the rich variety of the jungle, from shadowy undergrowth to sunlit clearings, mirrors my versatile view of electronic music inside the mixtape. Just as the monstera effortlessly adjusts to its surroundings, my mix weaves a sonic journey that spans an array of electronic music genres, from the slow dubby beginning thru more high-energy rhythms towards the melodic end. 
The plant’s adaptability and resilience find reflection in the the mixtape's capacity to traverse musical terrains, providing listeners with a multifaceted journey through the electronic music jungle.

The debut release from Dutch dance collective ISOTOOP on their newly minted label unfolds as a mysterious musical journey led by core members Shoal (Kenny Kneefel) and Vand (Viktor van der Riet), united for the first time under the moniker Voal. The EP, a collaboration between longtime friends, unveils a distinctive approach to club music, where the individual signatures of Shoal and Vand merge into a unified force. Across the four tracks, the duo skillfully balances rhythm and contemplation, creating an experience that propels movement on the dancefloor while leaving room for cerebral exploration. Voal's artistry shines through in their astute sound design and polyrhythmic mastery.

Today's premiere, "Carpet Crawler," opens the EP with a bass line that asserts its distinct presence, accompanied by intricate percussions, sampled vocals, and an evolving robotic sequence. The track unfolds as an eerie and murky journey, akin to navigating through a cosmic storm aboard a spacecraft. Its relentless progression and unconventional blend of elements offer a unique listening experience that lingers with a listener long after it’s done. 

Voal's "Carpet Crawler" and the rest of the Saffron EP are coming out on December 1.

For the sixteenth episode of our Herbarium mix series, we invited Endurance (@joshua-stefane), the label owner of @muzaneditions. He is a master when it comes to exquisit ambient journeys and therefore we are very happy to feature one of his beautifully told stories. 

For this mix he chose Chrysanthemum. Here is why:
I chose the chrysanthemum as the flower for this mix - specifically the Chrysanthemum / morifolium hybrid species, which originated in China and is also popular in Japan. Aesthetically, I think it is one of the most beautiful flowers, with its multitude of florets radiating from the center, or cascading down like willow branches, depending on the type. I love how such flowers can feel so complex and deep, simply through the arrangement of similar elements - and that is something that guided this mix. Using tracks from artists I love, old sound effects records from the 60s and 70s, and my own live improvisations and field recordings, I tried to layer similar or repeating elements over each other to create a complex and cohesive whole. Thank you for listening.

Endurance is the ambient project of Canadian-born Joshua Stefane. Using modular synthesizers, field recordings, and cassette tapes, Endurance’s sound has become increasing minimal and tonally-focused over the years, employing a minimum of elements to create a maximum of expressiveness. In addition to releasing from labels such as Constellation Tatsu and Mystery Circles, Endurance also curates the Japan-based tape label Muzan Editions. He is part of the organizing team for Moment, a techno festival in Nara. It's 1st February and for our monthly episode of the podcast series, the eighteenth opus is dedicated to a long-time friend and artist - Souleiman aka lunar convoy. Co-founder of the excellent deep techno label @norite and founder of the experimental ambient label @efja, resident at Brussels radio station @kioskradio, organiser of the renowned Metropolis parties with his brother-in-arms @sonhan, where some of the finest DJs on the scene have played, Souleiman is an artist who cannot be ignored in the Belgian techno music scene, With excellent sets like his Lunology series, or when he's invited to the most cutting-edge techno festivals or the legendary @fusebrussels club, the artist is blazing an uncompromising trail, with a precise, infallible signature that's at once minimalist, mental and multi-genre, combining the qualities of a high-flying digger with a seasoned mastery of the turntables and a sense of narrative.
