About this journey:
I often create my sonic storytelling with a title and intention that I hold through the journey of its birth into the world. This one was different, it began without a title – just a feeling into the frequency of Cosmovision Records. But a title did arrive – midway through recording as I felt my body and all of my being become the wind. This journey, this story, invokes the wind that we are. Air. Weightless. Strong. Integrating live vocals (@jondavidmusic), percussion, and shakers, we journeyed deep within, and came out renewed, transformed and connected. Soooooo MUCH LOVE to the dancefloor who nourished what became of this set. The collective vibe from the dancefloor makes what's found in this live recording impossible to reproduce in a studio! Apukuna @ Ecstatic Dance Festival Cyprus 2024 (LIVE hybrid set)

Found my happy place at 1300m on the side of Babadağ - a magnificent mountain rising out of the Mediterranean in Turkey. 'Apukuna' is a Quechua word for mountain spirits so sharing this dancefloor journey on the side of a mountain was exactly where I wanted to be. This evening set included live percussion and vocals and a whole lot of dancefloor fun. Big love to the community that came together at Beyond Music & Arts Festival. Another dream came true as I played the Sunday noon set at Pyramid Yoga, the biggest Ecstatic Dance venue and event in Koh PhaNgan, where i've been dancing and living for many years.

I was so happy to see the people dance, jump, and shout to the wide-ranging journey of beats-infused world music I played.

A few highlights:
- Beats and Bass-infused vocals and music from Native-american, New-Zealand Mauri, Russian,  Tibetan, Amazonian, Aboriginal Australian, Indian, Turkish, Brazilian, Balkan,  and LOTS of African
- A traditional African acapella, an upbeat electronic remix of it, and samples that return many times during the whole journey
- A few other vocal and melodic African songs
- My newest track, a tribal remix of "Stone gods of Bimini", by Ixtahuele

Apukuna is a visionary DJ and musician whose musical offerings transcend the ordinary, creating powerful, heart-centered journeys that ignite dance floors, guide ambient sound journeys, and deepen breathwork sessions. His distinctive approach to DJ'ing relies on looping, live remixing, live vocals, and digital percussion to craft unique and improvised experiences.

Known for his ability to blend sacred music with soul-shaking movement, Apukuna's journeys help to heal, uplift, and guide transformational experiences. He describes his creations as a ‘movement, a meditation, and a prayer for an awakening heart’.

Apukuna is also singer-songwriter Jon David (@jondavidmusic) and an adept presenter and workshop facilitator, delving into the realms of conscious communication, community-building, and food.

"Apukuna" is a Quechua word meaning 'mountain spirits'. Following an apprenticeship into Andean cosmology, I chose the name to honor the people, the wisdom, and to invite deeper appreciation for their sacred relationship to land, mountains and the unseen. This relationship is available to all of us who walk this earth and is where much of my musical inspiration emerges."
