Capturing the essence of the Crosstown Rebels and Robot Heart experience at Burning Man, DAVI’s selection of deep melodic odysseys for Rebellion are awash with the other-worldly magic of the Playa. A-side ‘Rebel Heart’ fuses ancient Eastern melodies with moody bass and mystical arrangements.  Second track ‘Anunnaki’ (a name denoting a group of deities in ancient Mesopotamian cultures) continues the theme of spellbinding, earthy tones and on the remix, Mark Jenkyns toughens up ‘Rebel Heart’ with a squelchy acid-flecked bassline, solid kicks and overlays of his own wonky synth structures. Last but not least the masterstroke ‘Two Suns In The Sky’ hypnotises the soul with rolling drum beats and epic chords as waves of spooky energy and polyrhythms punctuate the cosmic sunrise soundscape. 

In DAVI’s words...
"The Rebel Heart party helped me find myself at Burning Man last year. The music was new and inspirational and I felt it deep inside of me. I was back in my studio within 2 days of returning from the desert, fired up by this new direction and I think I managed to create my own spin on this most magical experience and of course I sent it to Crosstown straight away".

After a brief stint spent reconfiguring its sonic operations, Aquatic Lab returns to the fray with its twelfth release. LAB012 sees the highly-touted return of original South London don Cluekid. Two years since his last Aquatic Lab twelve (‘The Sound’/’Late Nights’), the perennial favourite of DMZ and FWD>> returns with a big plate that’s bang on the money. It finds Cluekid on a fresh, colourful tip – ensuring Aquatic Lab’s re-emergence as one of bass music’s key international players.

The eyes-down bliss of ‘After the Storm’ is a smooth liquid roller, which rides a glistening veneer of Silkie-esque turquoise synths and a soulful mid-tempo groove. Underpinned by a stunning escapist melody, Cluekid delves deep on this slow-jam, which sways between clean piano vibes and floating bassweight with unrivalled conviction. The flipside of ‘Cyber Funk’ blends a hefty slice of watercolour dancehall with streetwise urban bass-pressure. This pummelling bruiser sprints through a swarm of hi-hats and a thick coat of ‘verb, with sporadic bursts of melody espousing the confident sonic progression of one of dubstep’s finest innovators. 

Exclusive to the digital release are two additional tracks – ‘Minimals’ and ‘River Troll’ – which both find Cluekid on a dark dungeon flex akin to V.I.V.E.K and J:Kenzo.

LAB013 marks the arrival of Core (aka Michael Ashburner) to the Aquatic Lab family. 

True to its heavyweight 180-gram vinyl pressing, LAB013 is built on gargantuan dancefloor movers, and the stark urban realism of Core’s nuanced brand of seismic minimal pressure. The devastating A-side, 'Civil War', is a ruff street-flex of slamming drums and gutter bass, featuring the raw flow of Jamakabi (formerly of Roll Deep fame) The flipside, 'Cyborg', is a pumping techstepper that merges tape-pack acid b-lines with the modern Reece chaos of techno's more recent convergence with UK dubstep. 

Exclusive to the digital release are 'Bassmental' and ' Vital Nerve'; two cuts of bassline-driven halfstep that are guaranteed to smoke up the dance. The digital pack also contains the ‘Civil War VIP’ as well as a dark tribal treatment, courtesy of Shredexx.

Mastered at Berlin powerhouse Dubplates and Mastering, LAB013 has received DJ support from the likes of Youngsta, Distance, J:Kenzo, Biome, Thelem, and Killawatt.

  LAB014 is the third installment of Aquatic Lab's releases from South London originator, Cluekid. Leading on from his recent 'After The Storm' EP (LAB012), the 'Dolphin EP' is another display of Clue's well-heeled versatility and continual sonic growth, demonstrating why his extensive back catalogue of work continues to carry such high regard.
 
As Cluekid's most sought after dubplate in recent times, the A-side, ‘Dolphin', is simply a masterclass in stellar meditation. Combining the bold sense of musicality of his previous releases with an expertly crafted arrangement, 'Dolphin' is certainly the epitome of Cluekid's turquoise excursions. This melodic cut is as densely composed as it is meticulously stunning, as a serene melody ebbs and flows effortlessly with an undeniably unique deep-blue aura.

The AA-side, ‘Fossil’, leans towards the mistier quadrants of Cluekid’s sonic signature, readily articulating all of the melancholic nuances of his work’s classic after hours vibes. Scattering percussion, atmospheric dispersion and deep bass all feature in this mammoth roller.

The digital exclusive comes in the form of ‘Nihonto’, a heavily swung yet visceral exploration of jungle-inspired dubstep.

Mastered at Dubplates & Mastering and cut on 180-gram vinyl, LAB014 is currently receiving DJ support from Mala, Quest, V.I.V.E.K, Joe Nice and Chef.

Aquatic Lab is Australia’s first underground bass record label, and is recognised globally as one of the earliest international outposts of the UK dubstep sound.
