Two years after releasing the acclaimed Crash Recoil, Anthony Child aka Surgeon returns to Tresor with new LP, Shell~Wave. Retaining the minimal equipment list and studio-version-of-live-show-sets approach of the previous album in order to focus on the work itself, Shell~Wave is a deeply personal document of both where Surgeon is and has been, converging three decades of experience with a continued curiosity in the untested.

"To make this project, I had to dig really deep in terms of what my relationship was to techno; I've been involved with it for a really long time and there's a lot about it I feel dislocated from, so I had to really think hard about what techno is to me. I often get asked "what is techno to you?" but I can't answer that with words; this album is the answer."

From the complex, twisting track Infinite Eye to the caustic Soul Fire, the eight tracks that make up the body of the album are single-take explorations of the vast, hard yet minimal techno Child is synonymous with. 

Neatly dividing the record in two, the emotional centre of the record comes in the form of Dying, a vibrating, beatless piece that with a mantra-like vocal loop steeped in reverberating effects.

Further echoes of dub production appear throughout the record as tracks like Divine Shadow, and Empty Cloud have an almost ever-present mist of reverberation, driven by the appearance of a new delay unit in the equipment list; while much of the philosophy of Crash Recoil's creation is present, the process and the instruments have changed as Child again switches up his approach to studio work.

This insistence on trying novel techniques doesn't preclude returning to old ones, as this use of modern digital machines with live, hands-on takes that are as inspired by 60s producer Joe Meek and 70s reggae as they are by this year's synthesiser expos.

"For me, it's an interesting experience returning to old techniques again after 30 years. [I'm] always exploring and finding myself back at the beginning. Connecting the present with the past."

This philosophy of 'time travel' is inherent to the music itself as the synchronised loops repeat while the delay and effects branch out, forming unique eddies; distinct quantum moments within the circular whole; the future leaking through the spaces between the sounds. All of the concepts on the album are perfectly communicated through the painting by Taiwanese artist Jazz Szu-Ying Chen which suggests the movement of water, sound waves, and the chitinous shells of sea creatures.

Surgeon - Infinite Eye

Throughout 2025, Tresor Records will reactivate Detroit house and techno originator Blake Baxter's vast Tresor catalogue digitally in chronological order, starting with 1992's Dream Sequence, closely followed by his 1995 album, Endless Reflection. 
To inaugurate and celebrate this retrospective of one the genre's true founders, an artist whose connections to Tresor go back to the very beginning, the label announces a special 12" release, Dream Sequence X, featuring remastered tracks from the early days and highlighting the harder side of his output.

Initially inspired by post-punk and funk, Baxter started making music as early as 1985. By 1991 he had already released several seminal records on classic labels like Underground Resistance, KMS, and Incognito, as well as providing multiple tracks to the groundbreaking UK compilation Techno! The New Dance Sound of Detroit, which was many European listeners' introduction to the genre, solidifying the term techno, and launching the international careers of many of the contributors.

1992 saw Baxter make the first trip to play Tresor, on the first UR Europe tour ever, thereby pioneering the now legendary Berlin-Detroit Connection. This visit led to a long and fruitful partnership with the club's new-fledged label beginning with Mills', Banks' & Hood's X-101 and Baxter's Dream Sequence, from which the first four tracks on the new 12" come.

Whilst he would become more renowned for his signature seductive vocals and a smoother music style closer to house music, these early tracks are heavier, classic 90s techno, revealing the influence of industrial, post-punk and pop of the time. 
Indeed the collection is something of a time capsule: jacking 909 drums, intense, ravey synth stabs, samples from classic soul breakbeat and the Speak & Spell voice synthesizer; classic sounds and styles of the era all make appearances on the record.
All tracks have been remastered by Manmade Mastering breathing a new vitality and sharpness for the modern dancefloor.

In a world where longevity is difficult and superlatives are too easily deployed, it is still difficult to overstate the long-lasting influence that Blake Baxter has had on modern music. His visionary output can be heard across modern electronic and pop to this day and with this series of remasters, there has never been a better time for the world to hear it at source.

INSTINKTLABLP003 by Miles Pinkert unfolds like a late-night city map – raw, flowing, reflective. It’s a record that moves between functional grooves and introspective spaces, with one foot in the club and one in a more open, abstract terrain.

“Rundown” and “Gonna Get Down” set the tone – direct, rhythmic, body-focused. Tracks like “Neo-Minimalism” and “Jezero” slow things down, drawing from restraint and atmosphere. “Year 2099” looks ahead with a cold, digital gaze, while “Come On, It’s Late” balances tension with softness. The final piece, “Raum (Space)”, lets things dissolve – wide, detached, and unresolved.

A record built on subtle contrasts: repetition and shift, density and breath.

Whoever he is, he wanted to let the creativity that lies deep within run free, and has carved out his first tracks by cementing a solid base of sonic material made up of pure techno with minimalist touches. Drinking from the fountain of intelligent techno, this recently graduated architect starts his career demonstrating that, having absorbed the teachings of the classics, his time has come. Architectural has come to stay. This is not just another name, Architectural has earned it and become someone who will explore new avenues in the deepest and most mental electronic music you’ve ever danced before. 
 
This powerful edifice which rises sky-high, laid its foundations and basic structure in Architectural 001 and 002, which presents us the blows, clicks, snaps and twisting resulting from the construction crew’s hard labour and exploitation of a dark desolate ground under the instructions of an Architect, whose mind generates the project that builds up before us. 
 
After the elation with which his first projects where welcomed by the most well known European dj’s, Architectural continues his building project with a surprising 3rd EP. Architectural 003 proves that this is no rookie, he’s a blazing star showing such a high level of creativity and innovation that leaves no room for doubt. We give ourselves over to a captivating rhythm, and it's a privilege. We are participating in the birth of a new sound structure which will lay the foundations of a style many will follow.
At the endings of 2011 Architectural presents his 4th work: Architectural 004. This is the culmination of the first structure planned by this artist, but is sure that it will not be the last.

Bebiendo de la escuela del ‘Intelligent Techno’ este recién licenciado arquitecto comienza su carrera demostrando que, una vez ha interiorizado las enseñanzas de los clásicos, ha llegado su hora: Architectural ha venido para quedarse, no es un nombre más: es por méritos propios alguien que va a marcar un nuevo camino en la electrónica de baile más profunda y mental que hayas bailado.
Esta poderosa edificación que empieza a alzarse pone sus cimientos y estructura básica en Architectural 001 y 002, que nos presentan los impactos, chasquidos y torsiones que provoca todo el equipo de construcción enfrascado en su tarea, explotando un oscuro terreno desolado, siguiendo las indicaciones del Arquitecto que genera en su mente todo el proyecto que irá alzándose ante nosotros. 
Tras una exultante acogida de sus primeros proyectos por parte de los más reconocidos dj’s europeos, Architectural continúa su proyecto constructivo con un sorprendente tercer EP: Architectural 003 es la constatación de que no nos encontramos ante un ‘rookie’, una estrella fulgurante: exhibe tal nivel de creatividad e innovación que no deja lugar a dudas: entregarnos a su cautivador ritmo es un privilegio, es participar en el nacimiento de una nueva estructura sonora que va a marcar un estilo que muchos tratarán de seguir.
No ha muerto todavía el año 2011 cuando el afán productivo de Architectural nos entrega su cuarto trabajo: Architectural 004. Culmina así la primera estructura proyectada por este artista, la que a buen seguro, no va a ser el único elemento creado por él.
Una 5ª fase de su proyecto está ya en fase de diseño: ¿qué sorpresas nos depara? Pronto lo sabremos: no te pierdas el proyecto de construcción musical que traza Architectural.
