~Chapter 5 - The Cursed Swamp~

    After successfully putting a stop to the beasts' attack in the mines, Grungni and our Hero, exhausted, finally breach the surface in time to witness the rising sun.  They rest for an hour's time, making a meal of a few rabbits that Grungni had captured upon leaving the mines with some roots that were taken from the underground city.  Slightly rejuvinated, the Dwarf and Tenkara set out on their 8 hour journey to the mountains' end.
    Having fulfilled his duty to the Great Leader, Grungni bid our Hero farewell at the first sight of the heavily wooded area beyond the valley below.  Armed with his sword, the mysterious Ring of Azuraa, and with the rations Grungni gave him, Our hero began his ascent to the dark, wooded terrain below.
    What had once been a river near a large forest was no more.  Years of corrosion had caused the two to become intertwined, forming a large, mist-covered swamp.   An evil aura surrounds the swamp, shrouding itself in a darkness that even the light of day cannot expel.  The swamp gives off the illusion that everything is alive and breathing. But is it just an illusion?  Suddenly, with loud, disgusting gurgles, the mud seemed to materialize into the form of horrifying beasts, ascending from the dark abyss of the swamps, well aware of the presence of a trespasser. And so, our Hero draws his sword, prepared to engage the beasts before him...
   The beasts, whose construction was entirely of mud, were easy enough to slice through, but their sheer numbers proved to be taxing on our Hero's stamina.  It would only be a matter of time before he would be overpowered, his quest cut short and the future of Delthor in the hands of Plague and Shinryu.  Frozen in his tracks, our Hero slowly begins to lose control of his body, his consciousness taken place by the fire of the Tenkara warrior within. The Ring Of Azuraa begins to react, a glowing aura of blue Holy light emanating from the gem. As the aura shrouds itself around our hero's body, he slowly begins to levitate into the air, his eyes glowing a fierce blue matching that of the ring's light.  The beasts begin to gradually dissolve back into the muddy waters of which they were born.  The dark cloud that had once surrounded the swamp began to dissipate. And in what had seemed like an hour, but was just 30 seconds in time, it was all over.  Our Hero drops down to the ground, alive but unconscious from the toll his body has taken.
     He awakened hours later, lightheaded and confused. The events of that day no more than a haze. Now nightfall, he begins to navigate his way westward through the remainder of the swamp, where the next chapter of our quest continues...
