Episodio 53 - Natural Selection With Ivan Sandhas

Luka Sambe, from Sydney, Australia, is a prominent figure in underground dance music. However, his singles, compilation appearances, and a solo easy-listening album, 'The Fundamental Transience of Everything' on Armadillo Records, showcased his remarkable skills in Electronica. His new 3-track release is a deep dive into the artist's psyche, delving into the depths of the subconscious mind.

The opening track, 'Water In A Wineglass,' is the perfect introduction, delivering drama and abstraction. Exciting elements of the structure sound like a tape played in reverse, contrasting the light-hearted melody and proving that there are no limits in the genre and that innovations in electronic music are always possible.

The second piece, 'Vincentia,' presents a larger-than-life theme, exposing modern composition with timeless components that could serve as a movie soundtrack. Luka Sambe joins this fledgling imprint that's causing a fuss with DJ's across the board, with its super cool take on all things restrained and beautiful. His music has been gracing Lost & Found, Juicebox and Perspectives Digital with his club tracks, and makes his debut here with a breathtaking release oozing of quality.

To start things off, Luka Sambe featuring Eisenzahn with 'Saturn Return', where dreamy pads and swooshes, meet wondrous acoustic guitar licks, spoken vocals, and a cool groove. A melodic voyage of depth and sophistication that gently guides you along a hazy spine tingling movement of the highest order.

'Lettera Amorosa' is next and is a tinkling melodic beach vibed gem, with its slow paced groove, gently caressing the harmonics and piano line that sparkle like rays of light coming through a window after a rain storm.

Rounding off this release, we find 'Sooti'. An epic slice of chill out magic, shrouded in layers of musical plucks and chimes, while whimsical pads gel everything together delicately, and with an air of grace.

Forget other Sambey’s works! Not that this is better than "Rululu", "If I Go First", "Empty Picture Frames", "Hebe XVI" and the rest – it’s obvious that such comparisons are needless. Ambient electronica has been done well in the past in a variety of different ways by authors such as Yellow Magic Orchestra, Jean-Michel Jarre, Éric Serra and Vangelis, but here the focus is on modern, progressive and forward-looking themes and a few well-chosen percussive tracks. What makes this EP unusual is the manner in which the soundscape is presented and produced. The result is a delightful opus that creates abstract feelings and new dimensions of elegant and rather timeless home listening music.
