ARRVL Records Showcase w/ Belms & Audioglider - 22.05.21

Deersky’s Soundteller Records welcomes Chaum to the label for his debut EP ‘Dyan Moon’. Born in Greece but now based in the UK, Angelos Moutsai aka Chaum has emerged in the world of progressive music since making his debut in 2016. Releases via Beat Boutique, Hoomidaas, One Of A Kind and RYNTH have been vehicles for his unique take on the genre and it’s related derivatives. Now following a contribution to Mango Alley’s ‘Augmented 005’ collection, Chaum makes his Soundteller debut with a three track showcase.

With three originals to choose from it is ‘19.5’ which leads the release off. Smooth and inviting from the outset, it’s submerged groove, jangly motifs and colourful arps act as an intro piece in a way, building anticipation for what’s to come while showcasing Chaum’s explorative production chops. The second selection ‘Ovate’ continues on a similar meditative pulse but takes closer aim at the dance floor. Electric rhythms coupled with a machine gun style groove and firing percussion provide a lively foundation for astral sonics and mind bending effects to work their magic. Void of any overt musical theme, it’s timely transitions and key changing groove provide several dynamic moments along the way, and should work nicely as a midset piece for the more adventurous DJs out there.

The release concludes with the title selection ‘Dyan Moon’ which ventures further into emotive territory. Played out over eight minutes, it’s warm buzzing groove, effervescent percussion and impassioned chord changes work beautifully together. Timely overlays are likely it’s strongest suit however, subtly adding emotional touches and spine-tingling moments as journey evolves, before the main break advances the narrative through tasteful modulation, as the beats drop for a reflective finale. It rounds out a huge Soundteller debut for Chaum, an artist who continues to excite progressive music fans as the year reaches it’s half way mark. Highly recommended.

Since the inception of this project 2019, they have carefully built out their own perception of how electronic music should be represented on today's dance floor: energetic, organic, and distorted. 

As well as DJing, they have also been heavily focused on developing their own productions, which are inspired by transcendent sounds, and futuristic musical concepts. Along with a selection of attentively curated tracks, you can expect to hear some of ÆMYGDALA's original work throughout this mix.

Juan Basaldua - New Universe [Future Avenue]

Hertfordshire lad and self taught music producer, Myles Webb aka XSPANCE, Inspired by film scores and uplifting music that tells a story. He is a huge fan of artists like Jon Hopkins, Ulrich Schnauss...to name a few. After discovering his style as a UK based Electronic music producer, Myles finished and self released his debut album ‘Night Echoes’ in Feb 2014 on bandcamp, He since has remixed numerous tracks including music from the album from Echaskech – Origin, one of which appeared on the huge Touched Two compilation. He’s collaborated with Joey Fehrehbach & Audioglider who themselves have made many appearances seminal releases such as Nick Warren’s Paris GU30 compilation in 2006. 

After being discovered by Norman Hines Stripped label, Xspance released his sultry track “Disappear With Me”. And over the years has since released many singles, EPs and LPs over a myriad of labels - Section Records, Ant-Zen, Just Music, Stellar Fountain, Hydrogen, NYLO, ICONYC, Traumwelten, BC2, Mirabilis Records, Loki Recordings, Mango Alley, Krafted Underground, ASTIR, Emotional Content Recordings, Honeys Drops, Pro B Tech. Sound Avenue. 

XSPANCE has been working very hard in the studio the last couple of years on lots of new material and as a result, has just released a long player in collaboration with Joey Fehrenbach and another imminent collaboration LP release with the extremely talented singer-songwriter Daniela Rhodes, called ‘Merged Horizons’ which will hopefully be released in 2022.
