He might be a relative newcomer but DJ and producer Silent-One has had a great first schooling entering the scene. Born in 1992, Benedikt Merkl is one of the founding members of the From Another Mind-collective. Setting up the party in 2014 in his hometown Stuttgart in Germany (and later expanding it to Munich), he got his training through “learning by doing”. In 2016 the party also evolved into a record. Organizing the From Another Mind-club nights was what eventually led him into DJing, debuting in 2015 and shortly thereafter landing residencies at MMA in Munich and Romy S in Stuttgart.

When Silent-One DJs he fearlessly goes from more controlled techno into relentless, EBM-tinged productions and all the way into wave-territory. Unafraid of changing the structure of his sets, he peppers rigid tracks with rhythm-focused material, letting playful basslines and drum patterns wash over. All of this set on a backdrop of emotional atmospheric sounds – digging out tracks that rest on an ambient tapestry comes natural for Silent-One. For him ambient goes deep and true. He sees “ambient as reality and techno as an illusion” – a shifted and unusual view of the two genres. Maybe this also ties into his perspective of the From Another Mind- events, where he as a DJ (and organizer) builds a space for the clubbers to escape their daily lives, getting a chance to get lost in music.

Mentioning the ambient influences in his DJ-sets brings you directly to the center of his own work as a producer. The often sacral-sounding productions are nothing short of a deeply personal exploration for Silent-One; with the help of visceral sounds he brings the listener to the mind’s dispirited places; not being scared of its less gleeful corners. Hinting this already in the track titles by selecting them as carefully as he composes them. His ambient works are very much an extension of himself and their existence is meaningful to the producer.

Silent-One set up his label Intimate Silence already in 2016, which makes him not just an “early bird”, but also a fixture on the currently revived ambient scene. Intimate Silence is his platform solely dedicated to ambient and experimental creations, while the From Another Mind-imprint fulfills his techno desires. Silent- One’s ambitions with the label also resulted as offspring in shape of a monthly radio show for France’s acclaimed Rinse FM. Since 2017 Silent-One invites his favourite DJ’s and producers by asking them to provide ambient mixes. He selects his guests irrespectively of their typical musical output, wanting to shed their first layer to see what their idea of beatless music

A resident artist of the Berlin SønDER and Rave for Good events and the founder of the szlag initiative, the main concept of which is building a bridge between the underground scenes of different cities and countries. 

She cultivated her passion for electronic music in the hometown of Warsaw. After the move to Spain, she converted from a raver to a DJ the moment she started missing the harder face of music in the area she lived. Berlin, the current home-base, motivated her to discover different genres and to go outside of the comfort zone. 
Drawn to heavier electronic music, in her club sets, Kasia Gościńska revolves around the sounds of broken & industrial techno, electro, EBM, weaving in some faster UK-influenced breaks, post punk and wavy flavors. Industrial downtempo, experimental and ambient music all have a special place in her selection as well.

With a classically trained past in string orchestras and church choirs, it is given where their soundscape, as well as their fascination for existentialism, was born.

Having released with acclaimed labels like Planet Rhythm and A R T S, Linn launched their own imprint Acts Of Rebellion in 2020. The label expands on Elisabet’s mission: releasing alternative dance music challenging the border of genre conventions and traditional functionality, as well as the destructive policies that hold underground dance back from its original cause.

Medulla Oblongata is a discreet yet emerging Dj who blossoms in his musical biotope between ambient and a mental and hypnotic techno. We could see him working lately with the Château Perché Festival and their secret and uncompromising side projects and mixing at KALT Club (Strasbourg, Fr) where he can express himself without boundaries.

Cloutier’s nature - one of zeal and infatuation towards the warm, dubby, hypnotic house and techno that has come to characterize his sound as well as his ability to bridge the gap between dance music’s past and its future.

Eric Cloutier’s standards are representative of the pre-social media craze and arguably the old adage of letting music speak for itself. Cloutier’s twenty-plus year commitment has been built upon his integrity as a DJ and authority as a selector. A self-described "record digging psychopath," one only has to refer to his mix of highly sought after cuts from Driftwood Records to see the lengths Cloutier will go to in order to procure the perfect selection. This is truly Cloutier’s nature - one of zeal and infatuation towards the warm, dubby, hypnotic house and techno that has come to characterize his sound as well as his masterful ability to bridge the gap between dance music’s past and its future.

An exception to the norm, Cloutier is not one to capitalize on his Detroit origins. Moving to New York in his 20’s, he became a regular face at The Bunker where he began to further define his innate style of body orientated music. Now situated in Berlin, where he often shows up behind the decks of niche alcoves as well as the world’s best clubs, Cloutier’s reputation as an unequivocal, dexterous force is increasingly becoming one of note. His talents as a producer have also been growing of late, with the establishment of his own imprint Palinoia, Greek for “the obsessive repetition of an act until it is perfected or mastered.” The label has become the new home and optimization for Cloutier’s evolving undertakings. Through Palinoia, Cloutier manages to further synthesize slick, dubby club music to slide into his DJ sets as well as feature lesser known talent he's discovered. He’s a DJ for whom quality - above all else - is the watchword.

Into The Abyss #033 | Latmos

Grown in the midst of Finnish spruce forests and the long and cold nordic winters, Latmos
pours these elements into his mind entwining Techno tracks.
The music of Latmos is known from it's warm and weighty basslines, cavernous
soundscapes and highly detailed modular synth motifs. His music holds a psychedelic
quality; not in a brash but rather in an immersive and delicate way.
Latmos records every track in real-time with sounds coming from various hardware
synthesizers. With this very hands-on approach in music production, Latmos aims to create
the sence of something being ”alive” in his music. The synth sounds of Latmos are everevolving and interacting with each other like being part of a living organism.
The song arrangements of Latmos are often quite minimalist, focusing on a few main
elements with just the right amount of sound effects to tie everything together. By having
enough space between different sounds, it opens a window for deeper exploration. Within
each single sound there's a new world to be discovered!
Latmos has never cared for trends, he rather sticks to developing his own signature sound
and searching for new and unexplored waters in music. He approaches making electronic
music in a simillar fashion to painting an abstract art piece. Rather than trying to portray
something from reality as it is, Latmos uses different forms of sound to evoke emotions
related to it. He often deals with abstract themes in his music like: the human mind, space
and nature for example. Also abstract in nature, electronic music offers the perfect medium
to explore these kinds themes.
Latmos has released music on various labels such as: Subosc, Blacklabel Distillery and
Cinus. His music has also been remixed by Deep Techno pioneers Mike Parker and Samuli
Kemppi.
The music of Latmos has been played by highly respected DJs like: Oscar Mulero,
P.E.A.R.L., Dimi Angelis, Patrik Skoog, Denise Rabe, Magna Pia, Eric Cloutier, Vincent
Neumann, Dino Sabatini and Blazej Malinowski to name a few.
As a DJ Latmos is able to adapt into various venues and scenarios. He is always bringing
something fresh to the table and keeping the listeners always on their toes.

ARTIST'S BIO:
"Utopian is Isidro Bolívar’s moniker. He was born in the south of Spain and from an early age he always had a soft spot for introspective music, no matter if it was floor-oriented or home-listening. As a Dj he takes hypnotism as the foundations of his craft, although, his sets can take many shapes, tribal, deep, minimal or melodic depending on the mood.
A few years ago, he discovered a new wave of Italian techno musicians like Donato Dozzy and especially Marco Shuttle which was a life-changing moment for him. This would define his technique, dj skills and mindset. Focusing on a more progressive based built up and smooth transitions. Musically speaking Utopian keeps an open eye on new releases but also on old hidden gems and will play them within the same set as long as the music pairs harmonically and respect the timeless quality of techno aesthetics.
He played a few gigs at Alpenglühen, a notorious forward-thinking techno night run by the internationally respected F-ON in Madrid. 
He closing set at Calma festival (Madrid) this time with a more tribal-ambient approach to a crowd sitting and completely immersed in music. More  recently he played at perpendicular fest and the mythical club of southern Spain industrial copera.
Apart from being a Dj, Isidro was an active promoter while living in Madrid. Confessed digger and record collector and currently experimenting with music in the studio. He also recently created a space for local artists to express themselves by performing through ambient and immersive techno streaming sessions, his name is "espacio ingrávido".
Utopian was asked to play several guests mix for international big names like Campfire (Silent Season), Oslated or Monument. 
He currently lives in Granada, in the south of Spain. There he has formed a collective with his partners and friends Fran Acosta and Kaizen (Antonio Moreno), their name is Klub Collective, and they have invited great national and international artists such as Acronym, Estrato Aurora or Cobahn"

A penchant for mysticism makes his DJ sets entrancing and meditative. We are more than happpy to welcome our dear friend Apolline alias Hypnotic Black Magic, who is one of the first lovely souls to whom we connected in our precious Deep Techno Community.
Apolline is a Berlin-based event manager and curator of Art Bei Ton next to being a fabulous DJ. Besides that she also organises the inspiring Ambient Sleepers event series in Berlin.
In the journey which she recorded for our podcast series, Hypnotic Black Magic leads the listener through several stages of consciousness by varying her musical selection in a diverse style with a continuous mesmerising and hypnotizing flow throughout different genres.

Hypnotic Black Magic is a Berlin-based DJ inspired by dark/deep/hypnotic techno, atmospheric ambient and ritualistic drums.

Through her sets, her goal is to create musical journeys conceived as introspective explorations of human's deepest obscure thoughts, meditative states and sensual expressions.

Based in Berlin, but also traveling around, HBM had the chance to play at some venues like Griessmühle and ://about blank in Berlin, VENT in Tokyo, Gare in Porto, Vurt. in Seoul, Ciało in Wroclaw, Monument Festival in Norway and in many other cities such as Medellin, Tbilisi, Lisbon, Paris, Amsterdam, Bangkok, Istanbul or Athens.

For our 10th episode of this podcast series, we have invited the duo @akobmusic !

 Based between Berlin and Paris, they have been working on labels such as Circular Limited, The Gods Planet, Lowless, Planet Rhythm... Already present on our recent V/A (ACCENTVA007), they offered us a deep techno track suave and suspended, as only they can do! They deliver here a session mix clearly intended for dancefloors, in a heady mix of hypnotic and atmospheric grooves, they bring with fluidity the listener in a vortex of dance both cerebral and corporal. The mix is a live recording of me closing us out at Zion, Brooklyn for the Berlin-based collectives @art-bei-ton party. Shared this long night with amazing peers and friends @settletechno , @mayilovesummer , @hypnotic-black-magic , @akashicmachinee and @deepaksharma_official.

I was on the edge of not putting out this mix for the apparent heavy compression that went on the recorder without me knowing(spoiler alert!!). But when I heard the mix again and again, either sitting at home or commuting to work, I couldn't help myself from enjoying the mix even with the audible compromise.

Art Bei Ton is an artistic project focusing on merging electronic music and visual arts, though the promotion of events, podcast series and a label.  

Organizing events in Berlin and Europe, our goal is to create some immersive experiences, offering Hypnotic Techno/Ambient DJ sets and live acts, together with VJing, art exhibition, interactive audio-visual installations, performances, panels and workshops.
