Elif continues to show her endless list of talents; The Turkish label has enlisted the free spirited talent to compile their latest VA ‘Harabe Nightmares II’.

In a tumultuous year, Elif has been a shining light. From her ABRACADABRA residency which provides escapism and connection at a time we need it most, to stellar original releases on Stil Vor Talent, A Tribe Called Kotori, and remixes on Anjunadeep and AKASHA, she’s used this time to truly focus and flourish. Whether she’s writing a track or creating a set, it’s a compelling journey that draws you in. So it’s no wonder she’s been entrusted with compiling the latest Harabe Nightmares compilation.

The track list features a diverse range of both emerging and established talent, plus Elif and Marat Mode team up on the driving cut ‘Koan’, where a catchy riff meets a building synth top line in a colourful rocketing crescendo.

‘I was thrilled to be asked by Cagdas (Anatolian Sessions), a fellow Turkish producer, to compile this VA’ Elif says. ‘I loved having the opportunity to curate music that I like playing from producers I love and want to support. It took a couple of months to compile and was so fun and so satisfying that it made me consider starting my own label in the future! Harabe is an exciting emerging imprint that I'm happy to be a part of. I am in love with each and every track on the compilation and very proud of all the artists who contributed.’

The Turkish label has been bubbling up since it launched in 2019, releasing heartfelt music that defies typical genre norms. ‘Harabe Nightmares ||’ will join a back catalog of quality and consistency from this indie imprint.

Last December, Paul Baule ended a two-year hiatus with “Phosphenes” on Click Records. By releasing his very first remix, Particles aids in maintaining the Berliner’s momentum. Also making his label debut, Partenaire delivers a storming title track. “Ex Machina” displays the rising Argentine’s experimentation within the mature melodic realm. A self professed "DJ and creator of melodic beats,” Baule gladly strips back the original beat to reveal his remix's thorough sophistication.

'Madloch's Sound Avenue imprint continues a strong start to the year by showcasing the first installment of it's 'Re:Imagined' series. These Various Artists EP showcases will take a look back over the label's catalog, presenting new interpretations from some of the freshest talent in the underground. In what promises to be a highlight in the Belgian imprints release schedule, the first installment finds Nopi, Hot TuneiK, Retza and Gimerique re-interpreting tracks from Paula OS, Paul Angelo and Don Argento, Paul Deep and Lerr respectively.

Rounding out the release and also making their label debut is Gimerique. Hailing from Belgium and Switzerland respectively, Bigasti and Floloco make up the Gimerique production duo. The former, a regarded figure within the industry, has showcased his music on Balance, Dream Culture, EIN2, Lost Diaries and Steyoyoke; while Floloco heads up the hugely popular Schirmchendrink mix series, in addition to being an astute DJ himself. Having already recorded several joint DJ mixes, Gimerique now present their first collaborative production, taking Lerr's 'Hummingbird' into deep and dreamy territory. Smooth, emotive and rhythmically buoyant, it's tasteful musicality may be its strongest suit. Charming atmospheres and redolent shades set the backdrop for a narrative of hopeful tones, melodic clusters and organic drums. Groovy and emotive in equal measure it not only makes for an auspicious production debut for Gimerique but caps off a stunning first edition of Sound Avenue's 'Re:Imagined' series. '

Mirror for the Sun is a 14-track cycle of tempos, moods, and hums exploring different facets of a softly solar energy. The compilation departs from the Souq’s signature sound, infusing it with a rotation of new elements. Niki Sadeki’s curation brings more of an uncanny Berlin-style voltage to the label’s earthy tradition, shaped by her own learned perception of deep house. The result is a cosmic and crunchy experimental blend, with mingling moments of downbeat drama and upbeat glow. 
When seen through a mirror, the sun’s light only reflects fragments of a fuller picture. Mirror for the Sun echoes this sentiment. Each track contributes an angle to an overall picture of sentience and connection. The 19 featured artists include returners like Zuma Dionys and MoM, and newcomers like Madmotormiquel, Geju, Landhouse Krink and Niju. 
We couldn’t think of a more suited selector than Vancouver based Niki Sadeki, whose vision has refracted across an impressive stream of radio shows, guest mixes, and podcasts over the years. Niki’s ability to musically embark a living-room or a car ride as much as she can a dance-floor is a quality we prize right now more than ever.
This compilation will return annually to Souq, shedding its skin and renewing itself along the way. 
Souq Records have built their identity in inviting listeners to travel across cultures, instruments and influences. This time around, the experience is more of a mind trip than a geographical one – we hope you enjoy this new phase just as much.
