BRAIS - Fuck Your Lipstick (Vertical Spectrum Remix)[Premiere | ECSY034]

This series has been well received by the likes of Anastasia Kristensen, Slam and Stephanie Sykes amongst others, and is proving Hungarian Wincent has truly forged his own musical identity. He has been DJing and playing musical instruments since his early teenage years, and these days he has played all over France, Vietnam and Malta and has released on iconic labels like Tronic and Popof's Form. His own Cryptic label is his main concern now and is fast becoming one of techno's most essential outlets.

Opener 'Unmounted Lungs 08' is fast out of the blocks with pressurised drum programming and scraping, loopy synth textures getting you in the zone. As it rolls on, ever more frazzled pads and muggy, heavy atmospheres build and take you into a new and absorbing dystopian world.

Then comes 'Unmounted Lungs 09', another trance-inducing track of stripped back but heavy, spacious but intense techno that layers up sonar pulses, gritty synths and unrelenting drums into a truly powerful proposition.

Linear B builds on the success of his June release, Charon’s Crossing, with another superb techno offering on his own well regarded Rainbow Tipi, this time with a remix from Banshee.

After support has come in from tastemakers like DVS1, Noncompliant and Truncate, British artist Linear B is now right at the vanguard of the scene himself. He makes music that blurs the line between house and techno - it is always powerful and all consuming, but also comes with a wealth of subtle detail that makes a lasting impact.

Enter the Arena' came about after Linear B went to see Sasha & Digweed play a warehouse event in Amsterdam and the excitable crowd were high and happy on nitrous balloons (which are legal to sell in clubs in Amsterdam). "I settled into the night making little mental notes," he explains, "hence the words in the track, 'I remember now, this is how it is, this is how it's always been, which way will you run, which way will you fly, when you enter the arena.'” The result is a paranoid track with a menacing lead and the dark vocals, all on top of a rubbery, kinked techno groove that loops to perfection. The Banshee remix is a twisted techno stomper with a wild lead that will freak out the floor late into the night.
The excellent 'Can't Get Right' is the sound of Linear B dealing with everyday pressures and channeling that through music, which he uses as a way of escaping the mundane nature of daily life. What he comes up with is an atmospheric groove with slick hits and toms and slithering bass that draws you deep inside.

Last of all, 'Superhugs' is a techno love song, which was a secret project to send to his girlfriend on Valentine's Day while she was away in Seville. "I sang it in a 1920s crooner style with a radio mic, it kinda sounds sinister and scary." It is a twitchy, unsettling track with a spooky atmosphere and yet more superb sound design.

Linear B’s fine run of form continues apace on this standout new EP.

Carnalist is an electronic music collective and label based in Istanbul. The scene is not developed here as much as in Europe, the UK, or the US but there are a lot of blooming producers at the moment. In their first release, they tried to promote the local talents who have a wide variety of styles as well as there are international artists in the Convergence VA album.

Grinding Like Nobody by Slope Unit is a groovy track with loads of claps which will keep you dancing throughout the whole piece. Melodic line is simple but at the same time engaging and powerful.
