BIO:
Since 2005, Isnaj Dui (Katie English) has stood awkwardly between neo-impressionism and electronica, conveying a minimal yet capturing sound using the pure tones of concert and bass flutes alongside home-made dulcimers and electronics.   Having done her grades on flute and cello, English has also studied electroacoustic music, alternative tunings and Balinese gamelan.  She has graced labels such as Home Normal, Rural Colours, Smallfish, Front & Follow and her own FBox imprint. 

Having gained critical acclaim for releases such as 2007’s Amacrine (Smallfish) and 2014’s Dead Albatross Prize nominated Euplexia (Rural Colours), English has been cited as a distinct voice, taking the flute away from its pastoral image whilst maintaining its unique mellow sound.  She has also composed several site-specific sound installations including UNThread as part of a series throughout unconventional spaces around Essex, and After the Flood as part of Hebden Bridge Arts Festival 2013.  A prolific live performer, English has performed in numerous high profile venues and has received extensive attention in Wire Magazine and air play on Radio 3's Late Junction and BBC 6 Music.

As well as her solo work, Katie plays in littlebow, The Doomed Bird of Providence, The Sly & Unseen and has collaborated live and on record with numerous bands including Piano Magic, Memory Drawings and Hybernation.

Richie 4Fingers has been shaking booties on dance floors mainly in Belgium, but also Netherlands, Germany, UK and USA, since the early 90’s.

Rumours go that he’s a brother from the same mother related to the Discobar Galaxie gang, and in a distant past even played in a band with the infamous DJ Bobby Ewing (Belpop Bonanza / Shameboy).

What can you expect from a Richie 4Fingers set?
The main characteristic is “feel good”. There’s always a sense of positivity running throughout his choice of uplifting and soulful house. His main goal is to make you spend the night dancing with a big smile on your face. Although playing predominantly jazzy, funky, soulful and tech house, Richie 4Fingers occasionally suffers from sudden attacks of complete insanity in the middle of a set, which usually results in the most bizarre mix of styles, ranging from 70’s gay disco to the roughest toughest rock or pumping drum ’n bass.

In daily life, he’s a motion graphic designer, working mainly for broadcast television. This love for visual art also led him to be the resident lighting and visuals designer for 13 years at the infamous COCKPIT parties in Cologne, Germany, organised by the late Dj Darko Strabic.

By appearance, Richie 4Fingers is easiest described as a “truck driver with fashion sense”, or as he puts it himself : “trendy trailerpark trash”.

BLK w/ BEAR advocates a communications aesthetic wherein audio/visuals are distilled to key base components through image pixelation and sound/time manipulation. We celebrate the physical manifestation of misfired communications, broken language and broadcast interference. We champion delay and decay. We champion audio bleed, field recordings and the deconstructed surface noise of altered vinyl recordings. We herald cyclical repetitions and misappropriated realignments, intentional over-processing, signal saturation and digital malfeasance, audio pranksterism. Through aggressive enlargement and recontextualization of the mundane and every-day we hope to usher listeners and viewers into a deeper introspective relationship with previously familiar – now unstable – environs.

Trace Recordings artists BLK w/ BEAR have garnered glowing reviews and international airplay for the thought-provoking and moving 'Wish for a World Without Hurt' collaboration with London's ROTHKO and the limited edition 'fahrenheit_drafts' 12-inch single. Audio has accompanied film/video projects in NYC and London and selections from 'Wish for a World' were used in the Discovery Channel's poignant 'The Flight that Fought Back' program. The four-track 'Version 3' extended play is available for download at the Long Division with Remainders '14 versions of the same EP' project site and now available in a box set collection with all fourteen versions plus an additional digital-download outtakes EP including a 21-minute remix of BLK w/ BEAR's Version 001. Additional material has been released through Little Cracked Rabbit, Public Record, and Sonic Circuits - District of Noise.
