It’s a sun brightened morning
the night chill’s finally warming
and the birds are all horning in
with their melodies
as if their bird brains 
are filled up with pure jealousy
because they can’t sing like me.

As I play my guitar and 
my voice is exploring
lyrics that fit to 
my latest outpouring

Then a chipmunk pops up
to see what’s going on
cause the world 
was so peaceful
since he woke up at dawn
and he squats and he listens 
for a moment or two
so I throw him a cheeto
and he squats and he chews
for what seems like long, hours
cause that cheetos so "BIG!"
then he dashes away
to perch high on a twig
sitting up in a cheap seats
far from my latest gig
"Go Fig!"

Then my song 
at last reaches
a point to record
as I head on inside
where my dreams 
are transformed
cause the birds won’t be 
giving me any awards
and all their chirping
and a chipmunk burping
will not enhance the sound
found in my soundproof Studio
where I can get it all down.

So I drop a few cheetos 
on my deck as a gift
for the birds and the chipmunk 
who gave my day a lift.

I do most of my writing when
I’m enjoying nature
it’s beauty and fresh air
help me much when I labor
to blend words with the notes
in a way that is pleasant
although it’s not made me rich
as I 'm still a poor peasant.
 
But I entertain birds and 
I make chipmunks happy
until something big occurs
and I win my first grammy
then I’ll raise up a monument 
near my deck where it’s grassy
perhaps a marble bird bath
for the birds, nothing flashy 
with a cheeto dispenser
at the bottom to please
My furry, little friend 
who comes to visit me.

And a plaque at 
he base that 
gives thanks to 
the creatures
who were there 
when I’d written
my chart topping feature...
though I don’t expect 
this will be my latest hit
though It’s cute and it’s funny 
and it holds some great wit….

But my soul doesn’t care 
I just like sitting there
making music from nothing
in my plastic lawn chair
with all my work for the birds
and a cute chipmunk's stare. 

Whether it's just for birds
or for chipmunks you see
I was born to play guitar
and make melodies

I'm not really bothered
by the bird's jealousy
as I'm munching on Cheeto's
and trying to be
a Rock Star someday
going down in history
and sipping my coffee
on a sun brightened morning
and the birds are all horning 
in with their melodies
as if their bird brains

Sometimes you'll reach hectic points in your lives,
where love is your only salvation,
when loneliness creeps in and cuts like a knife,
leaving  you hungry for love’s sweet sensations…..

The warmth of his arms or the heat of her kiss,
Or the need in her eyes for the same things you miss….

Then it’s time for some
 delight in the afternoon,
and let it all hang down 
beneath a midnight moon,
Where warm bodies cuddle 
and resemble two spoons,
Lying outside their drawers in a heavenly commune….

But it’s not just being intimate 
that brings us life’s highs,
It’s holding her hand
or gazing into his eyes,
That can bring two a comfort 
more than warm apple pie,
Or any pills that help ease
life’s pain’s passing you by….

It’s those long conversations 
that all women crave,
It’s sharing the chores 
without grumbling each day,
It’s remembering, like children, 
to take time out to play,
Leaving two, who know love
in its most blissful way.

Then you’ll both breeze past 
each hectic point in your life,
Where love is your only salvation,

The Hollow-Days Of Addiction.
(A Christmas message for all )

Christmas has come back again
For the third year in a row
And we haven't seen 
our precious son
Ever since he had to go
To jail then off to rehab
Then violating 
two probation's
the court ordered no contact
So we've had no conversations
Cause he'd abused 
his Mom so much
Leaving her soul terrified
and came after me so angrily
Every time that he got high
we both tried in 
every way we could
But then we had to say goodbye....


Christmas on drugs and alcohol 
Was never a good mix
Hanukkah plus cruel addictions
Just brings candle sadly lit
Santa Claus and faith in God
Are not enough to bring a fix
Only he can save himself
No one else can heal his needs
That have made both our hearts bleed
while he spends his hollow days
Struggling to find ways to succeed.


He'll spend another Christmas
In sober living all alone
Far away from both his parents
Knowing that he can't come home
And it cuts us deeply to the bone
Cause our tough love is no fun
But drugs and alcohol have stolen
Our most precious son
Until he proves that he is cured
and his addictions are all done.

So if you too are like our son
Suffering the same afflictions
I hope this poem moves you to flee
Back to the true life 
you've been missing
Because those who 
love you can't survive
Living with the endless friction
Of your lies and thefts 
And thier hopes left swept
Underneath your opposition
Your loved ones all must separate
themselves from your positions
Of your loving highs even as they cry
Over your tragic conditions
Leaving you alone 
while they sit at home
Praying for you and each one wishing
That you will give all that you've lost
Some serious recognition
Before you end up lying 
Under a marble inscription
that leaves them all 
Without your love
Another victim of addiction
so many others just like you 
Have faced Death's Benedictions....
