2009-2019 : Space mixes # 1 to 9. In 2009, I started mixing live ambient sets at my radio show, each saturday afternoon in Québec city. I don't think more than 6 people were listening (including my GF at that time) but later on, in 2011, I published the first one on Soundcloud : Space III. Now after 30 000 plays of them, I decided to make a best of mixing the best of them. The result is a spaced-out mix that might seriously soothe your mind & body. Emika Elena is a Berlin based techno DJ / producer from Tokyo and founder of the record label, Human Lessons.
Music has always been a huge part of her life, ever since she started playing piano in her family home at the age of 4, but it was the discovery of techno in her early teens that led her to become a DJ.
Having played one of the top venues such as Contact, VENT, eleven, UNIT, Origami, Air, Dommune and so on.
In 2016, she officially launched Human Lessons and released a solo EP titled ”Delicate Details”. 
One year later, she collaborated with Ryogo Yamamori, on a new EP ”Confusion” which was a limited edition vinyl release on her label. 
Gathering attention by being played by big name producers and radio programs such as BBC Radio1 and Deep Space Helsinki, she was significant success in first European tour in 2018. 
Her trademark sound is all about hypnotic darkness, influenced by soundtracks and cinematic scores.

Emika Elena 는 도쿄 태생의 베를린 기반의 테크노 DJ / 프로듀서이자 레이블 Human Lessons 의 창립자이다.
음악은 언제나 그녀가 4살때 피아노를 연주하기 시작했을 때부터 그녀의 삶의 가장 큰 한 부분이었다. 하지만 그녀는 십대 초반에 테크노를 접했고 이 경험은 그녀를 DJ 의 길로 이끌었다.

Captain Ulitka - Kinesthesia (Spitzer Ambient Series 2020)

Our next guest is as cinematic as he is musical, creating a psychedelic noir within his carefully crafted narratives. Hórnbęrg hails from Berlin and has developed his ear within the rich cultural context the city provides since the late 90s. With influences such as Scanner, Alva Noto, Björk, Ø aka Mika Vainio, Pan Sonic or Irakli present in this mix, he showcases his thorough knowledge of underground and experimental music history. As a DJ he has the palate of a true record digger, equally comfortable playing bizarre, left-field records as he is more traditional ambient and techno. This has led to appearances at renowned clubs in Berlin such as ://about blank, Tresor, and Griessmühle as well as abroad. Also a passionate curator, he started the *Gramofonowa podcast in 2015 as a platform to support a diverse set of artists in their endeavors. After observing his curatorial prowess we found it fitting to give him a platform of his own. Feel the end of winter slipping past you with this vividly ecstatic hour of pure musical intention from Hórnbęrg...

Glåsbird is an anonymous composer whose albums are the score to imaginary films.
The artist is building a series of works about various geographical locations as well as providing music for film, sound design and remixes.
Their sound contains evident influences from modern classical and ambient music genres and this mix for Deep Breakfast is an epic two hour journey through modern classical composition.

The undulating landscape in the image is one of clear beauty and depicts the traditional instruments used throughout this mix. Whereas the electricity pylons that run through the valley represents the subtle electronic techniques used in many of the selections.

"Given that the interview had quite a few questions reflecting on different moments in my musical trajectory, I wanted to share something that matched with that. This is a mix I made some time ago, but never did anything with. It is a very understated and simple mix that is really focused on the tracks themselves. Most of the music I selected has been with me for a long time and has meaning for me. The mix is called ‘safe harbour’; it is meant for a time of rest, a period to reflect on what has happened, to think about what has changed and what remains constant. It was composed in a more deliberate fashion, seeking to distil a specific set of feelings. The mix is one for late at nights, when time fades away."

Mysteries of the Deep CXVII - Chloe Lula

It is undeniable that we are living in uncertain times. For those of us failing to fit the patriarchal, neoliberalist mould we have lost hope in the future. We can see capitalism is not working but we cannot yet envisage an alternative. We discover that the stability we were instructed to obtain whether it be financial, political or ecological, is fleeting, if at all. The resulting anxiety is an instrument of neoliberalism that prevents many of us from being able to raise consciousness of the structural injustices that alienate us.

In a world where security is no longer feasible, the only constant we can rely on is change. Barad teaches us that the world is a dynamic process of intra-activity and materialisation, an ongoing ebb and flow of agency. The Buddhist Law of Impermanence proves that nothing in this world is eternal.

Regardless of ones point of reference we can understand that every aspect of life, physical and mental is in flux and perhaps this transience is the only thing we can depend on.

Each month we invite an artist to ruminate on these ideas and create an hour of relief from these anxieties. A temporary suspension of reality, where the listener can speculate on alternate modes of existence that reject hetero- patriarchal systems of oppression.

This month we have invited @oloruna to respond to this concept.
