Emotionally Suited To Be A Solo Pianist is an album by pianist and composer Louis Gardner, a singer-songwriter and artist based in London, UK. Louis began improvising at the age of 12, writing songs by 15 and recording at 18, steadily developing a practice rooted in instinct and exploration. His music sits somewhere between Modern Classical, experimental Folk and lo-fi songwriting, drawing influence from key musical figures such as Morton Feldman, Arthur Russell and Elliott Smith.

Louis’ creative process begins in solitude, often at the piano or guitar, where ideas emerge freely without preconception. “Everything begins in a place of improvisation and exploration” he explains. “I try to capture my ideas as fresh as possible, often using the first take and not scrutinising my playing.” This unfiltered approach has become central to his identity as an artist, reflecting an affinity for raw expression and imperfection over gloss and polish.

Recorded in a studio session during a long winter in London, Emotionally Suited To Be A Solo Pianist began as a single three-hour piano improvisation, completed just after his girlfriend had returned home to America. The album unfolds as both a document of that moment and a reflection on distance, solitude and emotional unravelling. The opening track preserves the first 15 minutes of the improvisation in full, with its unedited flow capturing this sense of isolation that defined the recording period.

Between these piano passages, Louis wove intimate songs for guitar, dulcimer and accordion - all recorded with AKG pencil microphones and performed on what he calls his 'special guitar', an old instrument passed down from his father. Louis recalls “it was the first guitar my father gave me which he used to learn Nick Drake songs, it’s strings have not been changed in decades”. Vocals were later added at home using an Aston Spirit microphone, their soft, unguarded delivery providing a fragile counterpoint to the instrumentals.

In his own words, “I was excited to make a Christmas album that, instead of expressing the normal joyful feeling of winter time, expressed feelings of hollowness and solitude.” The result is a deeply personal collection that feels timeless; a quiet, human account of being alone in a season usually filled with togetherness, where warmth and melancholy coexist in equal measure. The album draws to its conclusion ‘I can't wait to see you this Christmas’ as the melancholy is underpinned with a sense of hope, reflecting on being reunited at last for Christmas.

A record for an overconnected world, On Solitude by Hiroshi Ebina captures the quiet hum of disconnection, the pulse of digital fatigue, and the grace of stillness rediscovered. Across drifting rhythms and vaporous synths, he traces a new emotional landscape between ambient reflection, dream-techno clarity, and what he calls post-digital minimalism.

Ebina’s third album for KITCHEN. LABEL unfolds as a quiet rebellion against hyperconnectivity, reflecting on being unseen not as isolation but renewal, a way of hearing oneself again in a world that never stops speaking. The work finds kindred spirit in Wim Wenders’ Perfect Days, its rhythm shaped by the poetry of routine and the lightness of repetition. With On Solitude, Ebina invites listeners to pause and observe how their mind and heart respond to sound, rediscovering parts of themselves that everyday life leaves unheard. Each piece becomes an inner dialogue, an intimate encounter with memory, emotion, and thought, accessible only in stillness.

Musically, On Solitude expands beyond his earlier works into a more textured field of motion and tone, somewhere between the slow cadences of post-classical composition, the warm circuitry of dream-pop, and the luminous bloom of soft techno. “The Village in the Sky,” featuring Hinako Omori, one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary electronic music, opens the album in a breath of quiet radiance. “Your Mind Is Like the Ocean” unfolds with tides of resonant synths and low-end drift, evoking turbulence and calm in the same gesture. “Saudade da Memória Perdida” layers fragile music boxes like fading childhood echoes, while “One Step Closer to Awareness” pulses with hypnotic clarity, a moment of awakening disguised as rhythm.

The record’s latter half dissolves language altogether. “Transience / Permanence” and “Quiescence” suspend time in spectral piano tones, while “Hokokuji Bamboo Forest” filters environmental sound into a delicate ecology of tone and wind. The closing track, “A Silent Room,” features marucoporoporo, a rising artist shaping Japan’s new ambient generation, whose gentle vocals lend a human warmth to the stillness, like the trace of breath in a quiet morning.

On Solitude will be released on 20 February 2026 in limited-edition grey vinyl, CD, and digital formats. Mastered by Joseph Branciforte at Greyfade Studio, New York. Featuring artwork by Chizuru Masumura, an established Japanese painter whose works have been exhibited widely across Japan.

Fluid Audio presents 'Broadcasting From Nowhere', the debut album from Ondelunghe, a collaboration between Tokyo-based multi-instrumentalist Hiromu Yamaguchi and Italian composer Guido Lusetti. Conceived not through physical proximity but through distance, correspondence, and quiet exchange, the album feels like a message transmitted across frozen air-intimate, fragile, and partly obscured by static.

Yamaguchi’s contributions-piano and field recordings, carry the brittle tenderness of winter breath. Keys sound as though pressed with hesitation, leaving behind vapour trails of melody that threaten to vanish the moment they form. The recordings themselves crackle and hiss, as if weathered by frost, capturing the small, persistent noises of a world bracing against silence: creaking surfaces, shifting air, something moving just out of sight.

Lusetti’s work-what he refers to as electronic pointillism, does not counter these gestures but suspends them. His tones drift like cold particulate matter, dust motes in a beam of static, circling the piano without ever enclosing it. Occasionally, other voices, Henrik Meierkord’s cello, Ed van der Berkel’s trumpet, Daniele Varelli’s shakuhachi-surface not as performers but as spectral presences. Their sounds arrive like signals from an abandoned transmitter, lingering momentarily before dissolving back into the dark.

The album unfolds slowly, as though aware that silence has weight, and too sudden a movement might shatter it. Notes hang, unravel, and fall away like light snow. The music never insists; it waits. To listen to Broadcasting From Nowhere is to tune into a frequency that feels both familiar and unreachable, a broadcast sent from a place you’re not entirely sure exists, or ever did.

Fluid Audio is proud to present 'arthur & jeremias', the forthcoming album from Danish composer and sound artist øjeRum - a quiet, introspective work named after two characters from The Castle, Franz Kafka’s unfinished and haunting novel.

Like Kafka’s world, 'arthur & jeremias' exists in a space of uncertainty and longing. It drifts between presence and absence, where meaning is sensed rather than stated. The album unfolds as a slow sonic exploration, fragments of memory, half-remembered rooms, and corridors that seem to lead nowhere and everywhere at once.

Dusted loops circle gently, worn at the edges. Tape hiss breathes between notes. Electronic phrases appear like passing thoughts, only to dissolve again into ambience. There is a deep sense of nostalgia throughout, not for a specific place or time, but for something just out of reach, hovering at the edge of consciousness.

Rather than telling a story outright, 'arthur & jeremias' invites the listener to inhabit a mood. Repetition becomes ritual. Small imperfections are left intact, giving the music a fragile, human quality, as though the recordings themselves are artifacts uncovered from another era.

This is music that rewards patience and stillness. It asks for attentive listening, for surrender to its quiet pull. Like The Castle, the album resists resolution, finding beauty in ambiguity and tenderness in restraint.

The album is mastered by Ian Hawgood, whose sensitive and understated approach preserves the music’s intimacy and dynamic range, allowing the dusted loops, tape hiss, and fragile melodic fragments to remain unpolished and alive - faithful to the album’s quiet emotional core.

Released through Fluid Audio, 'arthur & jeremias' will appear as a limited, hand-assembled physical edition, created with the same care and attention to detail that defines the label’s ethos - a tactile companion to an intimate and reflective listening experience.

Stars of the Lid - "Mullholland"

Ashlar is the collaborative project of Wil Bolton (Hibernate, Home Normal, Time Released Sound) and Phil Edwards/PJE (Twisted Treeline, U-Cover, Crazy Language).

Both based in Merseyside, UK (Wil in Liverpool's Chinatown, Phil in the Wirral), these two artists and friends began working together at the beginning of 2011.  Lazy Saturday afternoons spent in various public houses in Liverpool's Georgian Quarter were followed by evenings jamming in Wil's studio, culminating in the collection of textural ambient tracks 'Saturday Drones'.

Scratchy field recordings made on mobile phones and minidisc combine with sprawling electric and acoustic guitar improvisations, grainy loops and blurry drones, embellished with analogue synthesiser and electronics.
