EARTH is the third opus of FOUDRE! - a telluric drone qu​artet​ composed of Frédéric D. Oberland (Oiseaux-Tempête, The Rustle Of The Stars​, FareWell Poetry​), Romain Barbot (Saåad, I Pilot Dæmon)​,​ Grégory Buffier (Saåad, Autre​n​oir), Paul Régimbeau (Mondkopf, Extreme Preca​u​tions​, Autrenoir​)​, featuring electric chimeras by Christine Ott​ ​on ondes martenot. ​

​Commissioned by Silke Schmickl from Lowave for the festival 'Singapour Mon Amour'​ in Paris, this album was recorded in the 16th century gothic church of Saint-Merry ​in ​June 2015​ as​ a live soundtrack performance for EARTH ​- ​an experimental film directed by one of the most important Singaporean contemporary artists, Ho Tzu Nyen​. Acclaimed by art and film critics worldwide and presented at some of the most prestigious international film festivals (Cannes, Venice, Rotterdam..)​, EARTH is inspired by the works of classical European painters such as Caravaggio, Rembrandt and Delacroix​. ​The film unfolds dramatically as the camera moves across a theatrically choreographed scene involving 50 actors, as the details of a post-apocalyptic landscape are revealed frame by frame.

Ho Tzu Nyen on E​ARTH​: 
“We see the site of an unknown disaster, the debris of history that constitutes the story of Earth. Upon the site, lay fifty 50 humans oscillating between consciousness and unconsciousness, life and death. Sometimes, one of them emerges into the foreground - clutching a fist, batting an eyelid, or weeping for his neighbor. At other times, these figures recede from the light, losing their individual shapes to form a gigantic organism, breathing in unison, pulsating like a jellyfish, though their journey across Earth.”

Since 2004, Volker Bertelmann – aka Hauschka – has, steadily earned a remarkable reputation as a purveyor of imaginative, distinctive, prepared piano music. On What If – which finds him adding player pianos (also known as pianolas) to his arsenal – Bertelmann expands his range even further, defying expectations and delivering what is without a doubt his most ingenious album yet
While engaging with his trademark technique of utilizing unusual objects – art erasers, for example – to treat (or ‘prepare’) the piano, Hauschka also programmed parts for player pianos, exploiting the speed at which they could play, manipulating the resulting sounds, and building layers to emphasize a composition’s meter.
What If aims to provoke reflection beyond the musical sphere with the titles of the both the album and its individual tracks. Overflowing with haunting melodies, mysterious sounds, and complex patterns, What If crowns an extraordinary couple of years for Hauschka. Born in 1999, Asthmatic Kitty Records was originally conceived as a platform for musical projects by a community of artists from Holland, Michigan, a small city on the shore of Lake Michigan. Some were Holland natives, and others had come to attend local colleges and universities. While the original Holland nucleus has now dispersed to various parts of the country, the fellowship is still growing, with new friends and shared projects with other independent labels. Asthmatic Kitty is now based in Lander, Wyoming, Indianapolis, Indiana and New York City.

Asthmatic Kitty was named after Sara, a voluptuous orange and white longhair who wandered out of the woods in 1995, pregnant, starving, and afflicted with various parasites and ailments, including feline asthma. Although she still wheezes a bit, especially when being chased by her sister Tabby, Sara today enjoys a healthy and happy life of luxury. Cast-off animals make the best pets!
