Hey. Thanks for stopping by to see what’s up with me. I hope you are well. What I have noticed recently is, I am like an old dog now when I sleep. I close my eyes and dissolve into my dreams. There, I befriend people I may or may not not know... they may be essences of those past, or imaginative and archetypal beings of some significance. They may contain trace essences of people I know. I can fly, breathe under water, and I may on occasion travel the cosmos in a supernatural sense. I find the realm of dreams to be extraordinarily fascinating. A few years ago, I decided to begin to keep a dream journal which now is just shy of a hundred pages. A future book maybe? This song comes from an amalgamation of several recurring lucid dreams. I had two things on my mind writing these lyrics ~ memories of working in a hotel in London when the chef set up a wooden chopping board at the far end of the kitchen, and expertly threw knives at it from the other end when he got pissed off with somebody ~ and seeing all my SoundCloud friends who also regularly burn their dinners when "just nipping back" to adjust a track they are recording :-D

I just learned that James Horbett, whose music inspired this song, passed away last year after a courageous battle with cancer. 

His wonderful music, song craft and incredible talent will always remain an inspiration to me, but the world is a poorer place without him.

Based on a chord sequence from the song 'There's No Constant' by James Horbett, this was the first rhythm guitar song I wrote using my 12-string guitar.

Lyrically inspired by the song 'Wharf Rat' by Robert Hunter and Jerry Garcia, and (somewhat obviously) by the movie 'On The Waterfront'.

Hi, I'm Chris and I am a research scientist by day and a songwriter in my spare time. I joined SC in 2013 and I mainly record acoustic guitar and vocal harmonies, but also like playing electric guitar, bass, keyboards and using drum loops.

My musical influences include Syd Barrett, Neil Young, Peter Gabriel and Paul Simon, and increasingly fellow SoundClouders; My favourite bands include Yes, Supertramp, Pink Floyd, Rush and Steely Dan, and I also listen a lot to The Beatles, Elton John, The Who, Van Morrison, Genesis, King Crimson,  Jethro Tull, Sparks, Stevie Wonder, The Grateful Dead to name but a few...
