Ciclo Continuo (2021) for soprano saxophone & percussion:
prepared snare drum, singing bowls, tuning forks, crotale.
Composition Ciclo Continuo seeks to achieve a hybrid organic timbre while associating atypical instruments to complement each other. A snare drum is used as a resonating body for the objects. The snare drum's wire also serves as a saturation effect changing the timbre of metallic instruments and also reacting to the saxophone's sound. Dyads and multiphonics are predominant in the saxophone part while pitched, but very fragile and unstable sounds are used in the percussion section. Harmony is enriched with beatings creating synergy between musicians, unfolding timeless processes. The duo plays the cycle that is on loop, an endless repetition devoid of narration, a basso continuo of an
unsung aria.

Moses in the Bulrushes (Musique Concrete)

I did this track in response to Disquiet Junto Project 0595: Filter Progression. Below are the steps I took.

Steps:

-record a tone using a single back-and-forth motion with bowed bass guitar
-in Reaper, stretch it to 1/10 speed retaining original frequency
-record onto 1/4" tape @ 7 1/2 ips 
-play back at half-speed (3 3/4 ips), creating a ~7-minute passage
-feed into Erica dual black VCF
-modulate cutoff & resonance by hand
-add both slewed and direct voltages from Ornament-8 into the filter
-record result, mix for small speakers, master

His first ebook won 3rd place in Sharp Writ Book Awards contest in 2011 (category: poetry). Residing in Cividale, Italy, with his wife, Russian haijin Valeria Simonova-Cecon. He finds his inspiration in memories, travels, and everyday life.

The Assignment: Combine two or more pre-existing 60 BPM tracks into something new — at half the speed.

For this remix, I worked with a handful of tracks from the 0609 collection that I gravitated towards, chopping + processing them in Paulstretch, Twisted Wave, and Ableton Live to halve their speeds.

'Blink' by https://soundcloud.com/analoc became a melodic anchor that the rest of the remix was built around. It was interesting to listen to the results of slowing + pitching the original tracks down. Sometimes I would sample the original speed version, and others I would first slow down before stumbling onto something that clicked well with the composition.

Taking It Easy ( Naviarhaiku 530 )

Originally inspired by oleanders, the first flowers to bloom in Hiroshima after the bomb, "flowers which bloom from blackened earth and poisoned air" is a piece reflecting on environmental destruction, resilience, and hope through duration, slow transformation, and timbral complexity. The piece unfolds in four stages which create affective sonic environments, each containing an enmeshment of one another.
