For those who love Bluegrass - I played the rock version of this song to my a neighbor and friend who is in a 3 piece band bluegrass band living the dream. Working on this song developed a few nice hooks that for one reason or another didn't get completed when writing this originally. I had to revist this version as I really liked the chorus and didn't want to give up on it. I've been trying to get it ready to share and I think we are there.

Guided by two simple truths—"Win the Heart, the mind will follow" and the fact that "Nobody cares how much you know, they want to know how much you care"—this song is an ode to authenticity. It is rooted in the powerful, quiet empathy my mother taught through her faith. Written during the isolation of the pandemic as a hopeful piece for the church band to record  at the time.

But the silence in the spaces, where the arguments should end, Just proves that nobody's listening, they're just waiting to defend.

You can preach it from the pulpit, you can lay down all the facts, But people don't care how much you know, there's no changing that. They wanna know how much you really care, see where your heart is true, Gotta Win the Heart first, yeah, that's what you do, And I promise you, The Mind Will Follow right behind it, too.

Never heard a lecture, she didn't need to preach the truth, She just showed me how to listen deep from childhood through my youth. I watched her meet the broken ones, the ones the crowd ignored, She gave 'em a safe harbor, not a single lesson stored. She didn't have the answers, she just gave 'em a clean slate, And that's how I learned you lead with your heart, before you open up the gate.

Oh, it's easy to spot the fake ones if you watch 'em long enough, They're the ones talking wisdom, when the road gets too rough. They say the words, they wear the badge, they post the perfect prayer, But faith isn't just a Sunday suit, it's walking through despair.
