AL272 Trummerschlunk - Soupe Populaire (24/05/17)

Berlin based Trummerschlunk is releasing his debut EP of experimental slow tech “Soupe Populaire” via Audiolith Records on 24 May 2017. 4 tracks, ranging between 103 and 114 bpm, capture bits and patterns of synthesized analogue sound, swallow them up, and release pieces of technoid music that are unsettling and magnificently mesmerizing at the same time.
It’s as if modular synths are having a jam session at night when no one is looking, mixing in macro recordings produced by little robot dolls. As if you step into a mad scientist’s lab where everything fizzles, pops, and beeps, but somehow all of a sudden the elements come together in the rhythms and beautifully haunted melodies of a modern day Fantasia musical.
Trummerschlunk’s jazz-session-of-the-machines-style is linked to his method: He plays fully improvised live-sets, then develops song ideas from the recordings afterwards. Consequently, his tracks are characterized by improvisation, handcrafted synths, and modularized sounds.
Based on a poem by Joseph Pearson, “Noah” brings in the voice of David Minor, enchanted and wonderfully lost, as if emanating from half-lit rooms behind doors left ajar. “After the Fall” is the most abstract piece on the EP with Saam Schlamminger's signature percussions and string instruments that seem to circle one another – measuring space, punctuating time. The title track leans into minimal, interlaced with mechanical echoes and industrial noisiness. The final track is “Portico” feat. Lucia Cadotsch. Trummerschlunk has woven her voice into a nervous dreamscape, which impressed the jazz singer so much that she invited him to play at the release party of her “Speak Low” Renditions at Berghainkantine on 26 May 17. Not to be missed!
The EP will also be released on limited coloured vinyl.

After two highly acclaimed compilations featuring great international artists, the Austrian ‚downtempo’ label Heimlich Musik releases the first official EP by Basel-based Boris Muscheidt alias ĂVEM. The 20-year old newcomer proved his talent as an electronic music producer on his very own label LOKD. Additional releases on Cosmic Awakenings or Casa Caos have been well received within the community. His debut EP on Heimlich Musik – called ‘Nuages’ –  is packed with two originals and four remixes by Bernstein, Oberst & Buchner, Arutani and Dandara. The title track ‘Nuages’ – french for ‘clouds’ – features spoken words by Victor Hugo ‘on vit, on parle’, who is an inspiration for ĂVEM. The speech serves, according to Boris, to show creativity and melancholia at the same time. The deep rolling bassline is accompanied with celestial pads and dark, melancholic melodies. This melodically rich track serves as a powerful soundtrack for rainy autumn days. Vienna based Oberst & Buchner used many elements of the original in their remix. By adding guitars, a 303-like-acid-appreciatorsynth, percussions and pads they found a way to add colour and energy with a fluid, intergalactic mixture of synths and organic parts. Dandara’s version of ‘Nuages’ takes on a deeper but also more minimalistic approach to the original. The drums, percussions and pads are more groove-oriented. Combined with Victor Hugo’s speech it merges to swell in a symphonic ride. ‘Nyx’, named after the Greek goddess of the night, the second original by ĂVEM is even darker. The baseline feels like diving into a deep dark abyss in the ocean. The song gets lightened up by high synth notes flowing with a LFO and percussive tinkles that seem to reflect rays of light. Power and intensity is formed by the suspense of the composition. Bernstein’s interpretation is accelerated by about 10 BPM. The dark atmosphere of the original yields a huge panorama, shimmering synths and delayed percussions, which shine bright like a water surface mirroring sunlight. Twinkling sounds and warm synths create a fresh, vivid feeling. Arutani’s Super Mario remix is a beat-based version mixed with a hammering, yet jumping bassline. The remix is packed with harmonic and dissonant sound effects; one of them is the sound of Super Mario jumping. All in all, the EP offers an interpretation of what a dark autumn or winter night sounds like. It is the perfect soundtrack for this time of the year.

@Sisyphon returns to the scene with a new compilation paying tribute to the @Sisyphos-Berlin Wintergarten. The release consists of eight tracks on a double vinyl, which will be available exclusively on Bandcamp and at the kiosk at Sisyphos club.  Digital will be available via all the usual outlets.

Among the featured artists are Norman Weber (Luna City Express), Black Loops (Toy Tonic), Snad (Smallville), David Silver (Autarchy) Monty (1411), @Kolja-Gerstenberg (Soul/Quintessentials), Olaffson (Framework) and Jus Nowhere (Rush Plus). The musical style ranges from traditional deep house moving towards experimental new-jazz venturing into hypnotic micro-minimalistic tunes.

The hedonistic paradise that is Berlin's Sisyphos has a record label offshoot called @Sisyphon that will be coming out of hibernation this summer.
The compilation is dedicated to the club's Wintergarten floor and is meant to represent the club's extravagant aesthetic. The sounds range from deep house to jazz-inspired cuts - if you ever been there, you can feel how the tracks perfectly adapt to the space.

We're premiering David Silver's Floorfreude that is a hazy deep House tribute to those glimmering sunny moments on daytime dancefloors.
The whole compilation is a beauty and definitely worth checking out!
