Aaron Ahrends is a Producer and Singer from Berlin (Germany) currently studying music in The Hague (Netherlands). He stirs up the mud of many musical categories to reassemble them inventively by mixing acoustical instruments, synthesizers and deep electronic beats while his authentic voice adds an organic plasticity and space of its own. With this debut release “Brief Embrace” he demonstrated his abilities at it`s best on andmusic.
 
Next to the wonderfull deep and melancholy 4-track release you will find a club smasher done by Gunjah and Stachy (Moensterbox / Katermukke / Stil vor Talent).

This week’s special guest on the Cadenza Music Source to Cycle is La Fleur.  The Swedish DJ and producer now resides in Berlin, and has run the Power Plant label since 2010, releasing mainly her own productions, always a quality fusion of classic house and techno sounds.    The last few years have seen her take the Berlin scene by storm, playing regularly at the cities Panorama Bar and Watergate, to whom she released last years superb Nightflow EP, backed with a huge remix by Kenny Larkin.

With a new residency at Watergate, and remixes forthcoming for Kerri Chandler, Ian Pooley and others, 2014 is gonna be a busy year for this lady, so be sure to follow this talented artist this year.

Following the release of ‘Watergate 15 mixed by Kerri Chandler’, Watergate Records offer up a vinyl sampler, featuring the exclusive new material on the comp from the man himself, and remixes from Voyeur, La Fleur and Lola Purple & Maine.

Kerri Chandler has been one of the most prominent names in electronic music for over three decades now, so it was no surprise to see him enlisted for the reputable Watergate compilation series this year, following mixes from the likes of Sebo K, Ellen Alien, Tiefschwarz and Solomun. Here the imprint drops a vinyl sampler of fresh Chandler material made for the compilation, with some stellar remixes from some rising artists thrown in for good measure.

First up is ‘Mama feat. Jerome Sydenham’, which takes on a classic Kerri format of swinging rhythms, a cosseting chord sequence, jazz-tinged low-end and piano lines, and Sydenham’s spoken word vocal stylings. ‘Think Of Something’ follows, upping the energy slightly with a gritty saw-wave bass hook, stabbing pad samples and an amalgamation of chopped and processed vocal snippets.

Kerri’s protégés Voyeur step up on the first of the remixes, reworking ‘Mama’ into a groove-led number, fuelled by bulbous subs, loose percussion and an ever-evolving dynamism achieved through multilayered melodies. Rising star La Fleur turns in an interpretation of ‘Mama’ next, the Swedish producer tips the focus towards raw drums and penetrating bass, while smooth melodies brilliantly meander around them, creating a classy dance-floor focused workout. Then last up to round off the package is Manchester duo Lola Purple & Maine’s remix of ‘Think Of Something’, the pair deliver an intriguing remix very much unique to them, we see processed vocal snippets, growling bass, infectious hooks and warm pads all skillfully blended to create a stunning closing record.

Anton Kubikov and Maxim Milyutenko are widely known as SCSI-9 and are by far the most recognizable and booked house / techno duo from Russia. With a total of more than 50 releases and 120 tracks so far on labels such as Traum/Trapez, Salo, Freizeitglauben, Morris Audio, Highgrade, Force Tracks, Tyrant and Kompakt they have earned great respect worldwide and are famous for their eclectic and crystal clear tech sound. 

What seems to be really impressive in the SCSI-9 sound are the strong feelings that each track carries, something quite strange considering the cold environment of their motherland. This “Mediterranean” touch made them stand out among the Russian electronic music community and gave them the role of the “New romantics” and the “Originators of the Russian Deep” according to the press worldwide. And as Michael Mayer wrote in one of his reviews “In the contemporary electronica the name SCSI-9 stands for truth and beauty”.

By the time SCSI-9 first appeared in the electronic music scene, the tech house sound had begun to fade and been full of mimicking. Their “Digital Russian” album marked a new era with it’s dubby takes on tech house, full of hypnotic grooves, unforgettable melodies and amazingly careful programming. A state of the art production that made them instantly an act to watch. Their next steps in their career included their flirt with Kompakt and the “digital disco” sound where “Autumn Love” and “Mini” could fit in any well made Balearic and Ibiza oriented compilation of the time.

The “Line of Nine” album showed their pop touch in the new Russian Deep House movement. Laidback, cheerful, melodic arrangements growing slowly into a groove.  Something they kept doing in their “Easy as Down” album which proved once again their consistency in the perfect production and their love for pop flavored melodic Tech house. 

Almost four years after their latest album release, SCSI-9 continue their odyssey through the oceans of electronica, this time together with longtime friends at Klik Records. Inspired by works of Jean Luc Godard and Arthur Rimbaud, Anton and Maxim now steer their boat over deep and slow waters, presenting "Metamorphosis", their new album featuring dark, bass-rich compositions. Focusing in the sound that made them famous in the beginning they experiment a lot with dub sound and dark ambient and stepping away from the pop forms of their recent past.

From the very first moment of the album we can hear their intentions. The atmosphere in “Intronome” is moody, foggy and mysterious. Long gone the cheerful and happy times. 

Once again the duo’s trademark is easily recognizable. Crystal clear sound. “Schaukel Duo” marks their new dubby statement. Slowly evolving into the perfect companion for an early in the morning – back from clubbing – drive, with the sound of a rusty swing going back and forth bringing memories of the past. Memories that keep on coming with “Nostalgia”, keeping a similar dubby tone, using a guitar to get us back on a summer’s night next to the sea watching the fire mood.   

“Song From The High Tower” and “I’m Lost” include formidable vocals from Vienna's singer Gregor Ladenhauf, well-known as Zanshin and part of Ogris Debris. While “Song From The High Tower” retains a straight and driving but minimalist arrangement of a song, “I’m Lost” goes more leftfield and deep with the effects on the vocals and uses deep dubby chords. 

“Alphaville”, inspired by the famous movie of Jean Luc Godard, is deephouse par excellence which includes vocal bits from Stylish Murphn morphed beyond recognition and samples of a duduk (a traditional Armenian pipe), thus matching Godard’s antiutopia. 

Dub instruments are used on most of the tracks, even in the more melodic ones like “Nostalgia” which perfectly matches with it’s mood to the cover pictures – contributed by one of Russia's most famous art photographer Mikhail Rosanov, who shot them during a recent expedition to Antarctica and is going to show them as huge black & white prints in a museum of modern art in Moscow. 

With "Metamorphosis", SCSI-9 show a musical snapshot of today's reality and transmute real life experiences into their 5th full-size album with a totally new overall sound.

The album will be released on the 9th Of April 2012 on cd, special edition double vinyl with free cd album included and via digital platforms.

Back in 2007, a track titled “Mini Man” was released by a stranger to the audience 18 year old artist named Alex Dimou. The title might have been the best one to describe the person behind the track, the mini man, a kid with such a passion and will to demand a place in the grown up’s world. And he made it. “Mini Man” charted 7 out of 9 tracks included in the release, something that could not pass unnoticed from the Tech house community.

A couple of years later his first full length album is released through Klik Records and this was meant to be the consolidation of what was on everybody’s mind. Alex Dimou was in fact miles away from the mini man’s definition. He was a conscious man, knowing exactly what he wanted to do and with the maturity needed to do it the right way. “One Of Us One Of Them” came as a complete option for the lovers of electronic music. From it’s clubby moments to the cinematic trips and the indie aesthetics, everything said a story in the most beautiful and tidy way, which kept on amazing people having in mind the young of his age.

His career from then on could be nothing less than upward. Having a total feel of the electronic music’s trends, his remixes and edits always manage to be updated and be placed in the playlists of the world’s best djs. Trips and appearances from Berlin and Cairo to the Ministry of Sound’s main room and WMC’s closing party in Miami on a weekly schedule, releases from Plastic City, Parquet Recordings,Mangali, Funk Farm, Rhythmetic, Kitsune, Quantized Music, Elite Records establish Alex Dimou among the world’s best producers and grows expectations for something new.

Finally this “something new” came to life and is entitled “Halemweg”. Influenced by his Berlin days and from all those that happened after his first release, his new project carries the air and rhythm of the cities were it was written, the energy of those that he worked with, the intensity of the parties and the loneliness of the trips.

Halemweg has clear House roots. Dimou alternates the sound of Chicago and Detroit, giving a European touch and keeping a dark atmosphere that cause awe to the listener and allow just one thing, a trip inside the track. He brings back nu disco’s lost glamour in a new form and has the ambition to sneak in the club’s speakers not just for a night………………but for years.
