Instrumental Focus: Study & Concentration

The rain was the first of the four tracks i wrote from the Growth EP. it sets the tone with an ambient atmosphere unlike any other i have created. Over the past year I have gone through alot of emotional ups and downs. And alot of change. Sometimes looking back it almost seems as if I've written these songs for myself without consciously realizing it at the time. Change is hard, and often times when we're striving for change it seems as if we will never accomplish the change we seek out. With a brushed piano melody i wrote that bounces all around the stereo field and sub bass to rattle your brain the first drop reminds me of a hard day in life, walking home, caught in the rain. Clothes feeling heavy from being soaked and a heart that feels heavy from the weight of constant mental and emotional struggle.  

But the song breaks, evolves and explodes in the second drop, seemingly representing the ferocious willpower it takes to overcome those moments where life seems too heavy to carry on.

Obra minimalista y atmosférica para piano solo, inspirada en los sonidos impredecibles del viento chocando contra los tubos metálicos de una campana de viento.

Escrita en 2020 por Augusto Cantoral, la pieza se desarrolla a partir de siete notas, donde cada una representa una campana distinta, cuyo sonido fluctúa como el vaivén del viento: libre, caótico, poético.

Minimalist and atmospheric solo piano work, inspired by the unpredictable sound of wind chimes.

Composed in 2020 by Augusto Cantoral, the piece unfolds from seven notes, each one representing a different chime, whose sound fluctuates like the sway of the wind: freely, chaotic, poetic.

Campanas de viento

Minimalist piano piece for the right hand alone, evoking the imminent death of a star and its final transformation into a supernova. Written in a hypnotic and slow-moving harmonic language, the piece explores the contrast between the fragility of a collapsing structure and the immense energy stored within its explosion.

Escrita en un lenguaje armónico hipnótico y pausado, la pieza explora el contraste entre la fragilidad de una estructura colapsante y la energía contenida en su explosión.

"TESSERACT" is a musical exploration of the hypercube—a four-dimensional geometric object. Built around a perpetual ostinato that evokes the constant motion of time, the piece portrays the idea of a cube displaced along a fourth-dimensional axis.

The opening theme represents a single moment within this multidimensional object. As the music evolves, a second version of the cube emerges, coexisting in a different time state. Together, they suggest a complex structure that we, as finite beings, can only perceive in fragments.

"TESERACTO" es una exploración musical del hipercubo: un objeto geométrico de cuatro dimensiones. Mediante un ostinato constante que sugiere el flujo del tiempo, la obra describe la idea de un cubo desplazado a lo largo de un eje temporal.

El tema inicial representa un único momento particular de este objeto multidimensional. Conforme la música evoluciona, emerge una segunda versión del cubo, coexistiendo en un estado temporal diferente. Juntos, sugieren una estructura compleja que nosotros, como seres finitos, solo podemos percibir como un fragmento de ellos en el tiempo.

Piano Works is a personal collection of instrumental pieces I’ve written across different moments in life.
Some go way back. Some are recent. All of them are honest.

These works lean toward the introspective - minimal, romantic, melancholic, and cinematic - blending felt piano textures with harmonic storytelling.
If you listen closely, you might hear fragments of silence, memory, and breath between the notes.

Forever Bound

This piece was written for a short animated film. It tells the story of a young girl baking with her mother. Years later, as an adult, she bakes the same sweet bread, which brings back childhood memories, both happy and bittersweet.

'Inner Compass' is a journey through the emotional world within. The pieces are inspired by places and the emotions I associate with them. The Inner Compass leads the way through it all.

Augusto Cantoral is a Mexican composer and pianist whose musical language has been described as “pure romance,” blending eclectic structures with deep emotional narratives. His style merges influences from Chopin, Debussy, Rachmaninov, and Philip Glass into immersive harmonies and contemporary textures.

His works have premiered at festivals like *Aires* (Mexico City), with pieces such as *Campanas de viento* (2023) and *Paisaje Sonoro No. 1, Tormenta* (2024), as well as the *12th INBAL-SACM Autumn Festival*, where *Amour passé* (2024) was performed by Abd El Hadi Sabag.

Graduated with honors from FAMUNICACH, he blends traditional writing with extended techniques, soundscape creation, and digital processing. He currently teaches at FAMUNICACH’s Piano Academy and develops research and creative music projects.

Su estilo integra influencias de Chopin, Debussy, Rachmaninov y Philip Glass, fusionando armonías inmersivas con texturas contemporáneas.

Ha estrenado obras en festivales como *Aires* (CDMX), con piezas como *Campanas de viento* (2023) y *Paisaje Sonoro No. 1, Tormenta* (2024), así como en el *12° Festival Artístico de Otoño INBAL-SACM*, donde se interpretó *Amour passé* (2024) por el Mtro. Abd El Hadi Sabag.

Egresado con mención honorífica de FAMUNICACH, combina la escritura tradicional con técnicas extendidas, paisajes sonoros y procesamiento digital. Actualmente es docente de la Academia de Piano de la misma institución, y desarrolla proyectos de investigación y creación musical.
