Moscow's duo Odopt debut on the Emotional Especial with an EP of discordant, darkroom bangers for the end of days. Following acclaimed releases for Born Free, Discos Capablanca and Hivern Discs. Ivan & Grisha - former residents of the infamous Denis Simachev Bar who glided aboard the Salon des Amateurs, Sameheads, Opium, Golden Pudel, 20/44 caravan with ease - present a 4 tracker of propulsive techno-house chamber music for these modern times.
Our pick falls on 'A14' with their nefarious, sonic industrial funk on max. Samples reverberate around a dystopian shell, before playful tonalities swirl you higher. As hands to the sky as Odopt will ever witness. There is true beauty in the night.

PREMIERE | Odopt - A14 [Emotional Especial] 2021

The night sky was lit by the flames of the flickering candles that bordered the clearing — it was the only light for miles and miles. Here they were far away from everything, and where there were no signs of civilisation, there were no interruptions. Those lucky enough to be welcomed into this ritual were all here for one reason or another. But the overriding motivation was finding something beyond the realms of reality; an intangible and unspoken force that could lead them to a higher state of consciousness. 

Tagliabue's organic approach to production has yielded cosmic and trance-inducing releases for the likes of Lustpoderosa, Cosmica Music and Blue Sea, under this alias and his given name Joseph Tagliabue. Elephant Gait Music is the next home for his transcendental musings, this time coming in the form of his debut mini-album Ambiente Sonoro. Like his previous releases, the music is cerebral and enchanting, merging eerie chants, droning atmospheres and ritualistic sounds with 70s library music and IDM influences à la Daniela Casa, Egisto Macchi, Global Communication and Coil.

PREMIERE: Tagliabue - Progresso [Elephant Gait Music]

Swiss born, Amsterdam resident, The Midnight Tantrum, debuts on the Ransom Note Records sub-label, Insult To Injury, with five Analogue-Techno slices of pure heaven. We first discovered TMT at ECHOBOX Radio in Amsterdam, where label boss Timothy Clerkin presents ITI Radio and TMT, aka Patou, has his own fantastic label show, Dee Dee’s Picks.

Easing us in with a slow, atmospheric intro, Thailandish Macarena throbs forever forwards, picking up pace & density with distorted kick drums under long, held bass notes and groove-laden synth lines. A big statement to begin proceedings with.

Unshaken Polaroid kicks things up a gear with mechanical rhythms, dystopian vocal edits and atonal synthesis - industrial Electro at it’s very finest. Continuing the industrial vibe, Big Sky Says Bye, drops like an anvil. Overdriven kick & bass vie for our attention, as we’re assaulted by synth explosions and dissonant atmospheres.

Lead single from the EP, Oranje Ant Steak, comes at us hard from the outset with a gigantic kick drum and rolling breakbeat before cleverly morphing into a Balearic techno track, replete with flutes and Spanish guitar! A multipurpose tool that’d be equally at home on the beach and at the basement rave. A Dolphin’s Third Hole round off the EP with some interstellar arpeggios, underpinned by and intense, rolling rhythm section.

The world was no longer under our control. Civilisation, as we knew it, didn't exist anymore. Towns and cities had been destroyed and what was left of humanity had moved underground, away from the powers that now controlled the earth. Could it have been prevented? It was too late now to ponder that question, but the sad reality was that we were likely the makers of our own demise - it was only a matter of time before technology took over.

Frust is the side project of neo-coldwave duo Blind Delon. Having released the first EP in their Stone series back in 2019, on the recently defunct Oraculo Records, the pair are now entrusting the second part to Letherique's Bella Ursa imprint. A perfect fit for the project's melting pot of haunting wave, electro and EBM, which is crafted with a DIY-minded approach and cinematic touch, the label steer Stone II out into the world this April.
