Depth of Vision began with a clear mission to break new talent, the type that has enabled this independent imprint to push through competition, carve their own niche and build a reputation for developing successful artists.  Vince Grain is among the many artists who have lent their expert sonics to the AutomAte back catalogue, having featured on the very first Depth of Vision EP and flourished since with several solo singles on the label. 

‘Walrus Dreams’ reintroduces us to the sounds of Vince Grain; dark, brooding and heavy yet minimal, dynamic and carefully laid out.  This is a record that cuts through with sniping mechanics, constructed from layers of percussion and drums, slicing into the mix with the utmost precision. If previously unaware of Vince Grain, this is the perfect introduction to his style and a monumental addition to his discography. 

Pulex is up next with ‘Dustwave’, the first of several new artists showcased in this chapter. His previous releases on the likes of Black Inferno Records brought him to the attention of the label and this cut demonstrates the eye that AutomAte have for emerging talent.

Evro follows in quick succession, delivering ‘Space Probe’, which follows the EP’s vibe whilst adding a diversity that doesn’t go unnoticed.  Finally, Dharma Kaya comes with ‘Open’; punching drums wrapped with a crunching bassline administer a bite reminiscent of the old-school whilst nodding to the contemporary world.

The fifth edition of the Depth of Vision series is a fitting tribute to a label going against the grain. Each artist highlighted on the EP pushes this image: unforgiving musical artillery with a no-nonsense approach.

Vesela, mračna i mlada skupina koja dolazi iz Čepina, Osijeka i Požege. Sačinjavaju ih Kangfu, Sky, Otpor, a odnedavno i Mance; četiri DNB brata. Postoje preko godinu dana pod ovim imenom. Crew se malo mjenjao, ali sada su jači nego ikada. Uz to imaju i veliku dnb obitelj diljem Slavonije, koja im pomaže u radu. Njihov stil i selekcija idu daleko. Od mračnog dubstepa, halftimea-a do laganog minimala i sve bržeg i mračnijeg rolla, techstepa, te starijeg neura. Eksperti za sve sto je mračno i popraćeno dobrim bubnjevima. Drže do starog, dobrog, underground zvuka i to im trenutno daje najviše inspiracije. Ništa drugo osim toga ih ne zanima. Trenutno iza sebe imaju velik broj nastupa po Slavoniji, ove godine i prva dva festivala; Membrain festival u Šibeniku, te Strobolobodobolos u Đakovu  gdje su ostvarili mnoštvo novih poznanstava. Dnb im je najveca ljubav i opsesija i to ce ih voditi u daljnjem radu. 

 Jolly, dark and young group of people that come from Čepin, Osijek and Požega. This group is constituted by Kangfu, Sky, Otpor, and, recently, Mance; the four DNB brothers. They have been in existence for over a year under this name. The original crew has been changed a bit since the beginning, but now they are stronger than ever. In addition, they have a great family throughout the whole Slavonija which helps them in their work. Their style and selection range from dark dubstep, through halftime, to light minimal, also including faster and darker roll, techstep and earlier neuro. They are experts on everything that’s dark and accompanied by a good drum roll. They care about the good, old underground sound which gives them the most inspiration at the moment, and they aren’t interested in anything but that. They have a great number of shows behind them around all of Slavonija, and, from this year, their first two festival shows; Membrain festival in Šibenik and Strobolobodobolos in Đakovo where they made a lot of new acquaintances. Dnb is their tremendous love and obsession and that will lead them in their further work.

We share a mutual love of dark, techy drum & bass, although we are involved with a range of other bass-led genres. We DJ and write music individually and together. The Deep label aims to put the warmth back into drum & bass with a range of deep, eclectic, inspirational music, influenced by anything from the Far East to South America and everything in between. The Tech label showcases a variety of gritty drum & bass music, from amen tracks and heavy-steppers to neuro and hardcore styles. We like it grimy with a slight attitude problem and an infectious groove.
