http://soundcloud.com/philth is addicted to music; it is his breath and his lifeblood. A music teacher by day and DJ/producer by night, a more driven man you will not find. The very definition of ‘signature sound’, his heady mix of distorted filth & saturated breakbeats is the fuel behind a meteoric rise, turning the heads of the scene’s top DJs and talent spotters.

As one would expect given the track titles, neither tune beats about the bush.  The menacing, rumbling intro of Destroyer leads directly to philthy overdriven bass rips before dropping into a stomping, claustrophobic rhythm with which even the most nimble of foot will struggle to keep pace.

Genocide presents a slightly friendlier façade for all of 40 seconds before again taking a snarling turn darkwards, this time into a tearing, swaggering stepper. If, as the sample suggests, this is the future of the human race, a stab-proof vest may be a wise investment.

Since releasing his 100th track in 2017 Philth said he stopped counting, but the prolific artist has shown no sign of slowing down and continues to release music which reaches across the drum & bass scene, from smooth sultry grooves to tweaked-out tech stompers. The array of labels Philth has released on demonstrates his versatile sound: crew-status at Dispatch & Integral; tracks for scene stalwarts Spearhead, CIA, Playaz, Renegade Hardware, Chronic & Fokus; and regular appearances on next-gen imprints Flexout, Lifestyle and Peer Pressure.

The last few years have seen a stream of collaborative projects, including the chart-topping ‘Babylon Sound’ EP with Bredren, deep soul voyages with Phil Tangent as Phil:osophy and the ribcage crushing ‘Heimlich EP’ with long-term associate Wreckless. Connections with MC Fats, Collette Warren, Sense MC and Becca Jane Grey have affirmed his deft touch with vocals and ability to bring emotive songs to the dancefloor, demonstrating his versatility while maintaining consistency across his steady output.

But all the while he has been cherry-picking his favourites and hoarding a vast body of work, now ready to be unleashed as his debut album on Dispatch Recordings. ‘Moments in Time’ is made up of two LP’s of music, and displays the full range of the Philth sound while exploring new depths of emotion and ambient soundtrack-inspired works. Some of the usual suspects are called in for collaborations and vocal features, but there is a deeply personal streak running through the album with soul-searching vocals alongside the powerful basslines. Supported on dub by Goldie and road-tested by Philth & Ant TC1 over the last year, ‘Moments in Time’ can be now heard in the sets of long-time supporters Bailey, Marky, Randall, Artificial Intelligence and the extended Dispatch family. The album showcases an artist on top of his game and will surely elevate Philth into the upper reaches of the genre.

Known for his energy and commitment on three CDJ’s, Philth presents the drum & bass he loves in his own unique way, his sets veering from future soul to pulsating tech-funk in the blink of an eye - keeping audiences on their toes from start to finish with a mixture of smooth blends, sudden switches and his trademark razor sharp cuts. The longer he plays, the deeper he digs, always happy to resurrect the rolling Wormhole sound that inspired him from an early age. Based in London, in recent years he has toured the US and Australia along with regular trips across Europe’s club circuit and all over the UK. Wherever his music has taken him Philth has travelled with boundless enthusiasm and an arsenal of exclusive material. A true DJ who lives for the art of mixing.

Coming up to 20 years in the making, Tonic is still rolling stronger than ever. Pulling together the best elements of Progressive, Trance, Psychedelic, Ambient, Minimal and Dubstep. Then combining them within the DnB genre forms what is unmistakably Tonic. There has been a brief hiatus from studio life over the last few years but a few good things are brewing, 2 new albums to be precise and it’s some of his best work yet. These go on top of an already solid foundation of tunes with releases on AutomAte Deep, Modular Carnage Recordings and UnderNoize to name a few.

Going under the guise of Fourtechs there have been a few bits and pieces coming out of the shadows in the 4x4 domain. Fourtechs started primarily in the progressive domain and has, well progressed from there, from trance to breaks to techno. Someone went snap a while back, lets just say there is some fairly dark techno about to rear its ugly head.

Tonic is hitting the live DJ front after about 9 years in remission, so keep an eye on this. A complete over haul on the tune front then as well, any listener will be able to confirm Tonic has a refined selection of tunes that’s sure to put a smile on any true enthusiasts face.

Tonic’s internet based show, Deaf Fears Radio, has been rolling since mid 2015 and has some very exciting developments set to happen in the very near future.

We share a mutual love of dark, techy drum & bass, although we are involved with a range of other bass-led genres. We DJ and write music individually and together. We run the AutomAte family of digital labels, including AutomAte, AutomAte Deep and AutomAte Tech. AutomAte aims to bring you the best in edgy drum & bass, aimed square at the dancefloor, from rising stars to established artists, from chunky steppers to dark rollers and all manner of other fancy-ticklers. The parent label has already chalked up Radio 1 airplay from Friction, support from Drum & Bass Arena and has caught the attention of more DJs than you could shake a stick-insect at.

The Deep label aims to put the warmth back into drum & bass with a range of deep, eclectic, inspirational music, influenced by anything from the Far East to South America and everything in between. AutomAte Deep was launched in 2013 and has already picked up Radio 1 airplay from Nihal plus support from Raiden, EBK, Morphy, The Untouchables, Mental Forces, J Robinson, Ortokore, Philth, Stunna, Marukomu, Dexta & Mauoq (Diffrent Music).

The Tech label showcases a variety of gritty drum & bass music, from amen tracks and heavy-steppers to neuro and hardcore styles. We like it grimy with a slight attitude problem and an infectious groove.
