On the whole, 2019 was clearly a very important year for dubstep as a genre, with it seeing a pretty massive revival movement in the public eye. We have gone from a pretty scarce selection of producers and DJ’s being seen to push the sound to it becoming the dominant sound operating at 140BPM once again, so much so that we have started to hear the surrounding genres start to sound more and more steppers. 

What caused this revival? For us there is a clear link to the consistency shown by certain labels and producers around the globe, who have stuck to their guns with dubstep and in doing so have built of substantially powerful catalogues. One of the labels we are discussing in particular, is today’s guest to CubWatch: New World Audio, and their founder: DJ Squarewave.

He’s been In the game for a minute now, so for us to see him rise to the top of the pile alongside the close group of producers who work around him and the label (Sukh Knight, Shandy etc) is very exciting to see. 

We have therefore prepared a full label showcase for you all to enjoy, with the first of today’s goodies being an official premiere of Sukh Knight and Shandy’s latest collaboration: , which we have attached for you below via the official 3000 Blog SoundCloud, ahead of its official New World Audio release:

Being widely regarded as front runners of 140BPM based music in general, it’s always exciting to see these two goliath’s combine their perfectly interweaving compositional styles with fantastic results, as we firstly kick off with our title track ‘Certified’. This one is a rapturous piece of dubstep design, focusing on a minimalist introduction of drum punches and percussive syncopation. However, it takes just under 30 seconds for the carnage to commence as the breakdown leads us into a pair of lethal synthesizer patterns, retracting and writhing, causing a ruckus to ensue.

’Magnetic Hills’ is DESI’s debut 3 track EP. This unconfined release explores a variety of BPM’s while still affixed to her honeyed vocals and seductive sound. Out the jump with the single; ‘Magnetic Hills’ is an impassioned ride, embodying a full sentimental spectrum at 140 BPM. Picking up the pace next is ‘Birthright’, an illuminating liquid Dnb track periodically clouded with rugged bass and a wild climate. Ending off the EP with erotic hues at a vibey 85 BPM, ’Bijoux’ completes the picture sonically with a panoramic view.

We share a mutual love of dark, techy drum & bass, although we are involved with a range of other bass-led genres. We DJ and write music individually and together. We run the AutomAte family of digital labels, including AutomAte, AutomAte Deep and AutomAte Tech. AutomAte aims to bring you the best in edgy drum & bass, aimed square at the dancefloor, from rising stars to established artists, from chunky steppers to dark rollers and all manner of other fancy-ticklers. The parent label has already chalked up Radio 1 airplay from Friction, support from Drum & Bass Arena and has caught the attention of more DJs than you could shake a stick-insect at.

The Deep label aims to put the warmth back into drum & bass with a range of deep, eclectic, inspirational music, influenced by anything from the Far East to South America and everything in between. The Tech label showcases a variety of gritty drum & bass music, from amen tracks and heavy-steppers to neuro and hardcore styles. We like it grimy with a slight attitude problem and an infectious groove.
