Waves is a soulful downtempo jam that takes its inspiration from the ebb and flow of ocean waves. The dusty drums and vintage guitar lines create a bed of nostalgia reminiscent of old surf films like the Endless Summer, while the dreamlike vocal from Alaska Reid adds a modern contrast leading the listener through intricate instrumental electronic sections. 
 
“This song was inspired by the feeling of surfing a wave and the culture built around it. Having grown up surfing in Florida I spent countless hours watching surf movies and hoping to soundtrack them one day. The movie Endless Summer connected with me as a kid and I too dreamed of chasing down perfect waves on remote islands. Waves is the soundtrack to this quest and I hope it can take you somewhere.”

Sideways is the debut EP from Brisbane’s newest electronic wunderkid cln, featuring five glorious examples of chilled downtempo, electronic bliss. 
 
The EP’s lead single ‘Better Than’ took the world by storm, reaching No.1 on Hype Machine within just three days of its release, and amassing over 125,000 plays on Soundcloud since. Following closely behind was the EP’s title-track, which quickly strengthened the anticipation of what else this 19 year old newcomer had up his sleeve.

cln is now excited to be sharing the full Sideways EP with you all, which includes two unheard original gems; the bouncy hip-hip feels of ‘Dayum’ and the infectious trip-hop sounds of ‘What You Said,’ as well as the intoxicating remix cln has produced for fellow Brisbane-bred producer, @golden-vessel.

No Stress (feat. Saint Sinner)

"Free" channels inspiration from my grandfather who grew up in the Faroe Islands. He told me stories of the amazing land, how they climbed cliffs to get bird eggs, and would go fishing out at sea. "Free" aims to capture this feeling of adventure and openness in a song. The remix by @marley-carroll does an amazing job at capturing the elements of the original but taking it to a new danceable space. The driving beat, syncopated synthesizers, and fresh vocal chops make for an exciting new listen.

From the remixing artist, "For the "Free" remix, I borrowed a technique from house music in which uptempo songs are pitched down by a few semitones and reworked as slow-motion boogie edits. This process created a new stretched-out feel that inspired me to build a hazy, chilled-out instrumental around the original vocal." - Marley Carroll

I started writing this one shortly after the release of “(The) Evening” and have carried it with me throughout the past 2 years. Both this song and the album are a reflection and culmination of my experiences throughout those years and I can’t wait to share the whole project with you.
