SNKR01 - A - Throwing Snow - Shadower (Original Mix)

Barba hits its 12th edition with one of the coolest records in its catalogue. Having said that, if you have an expectation on how a Barba record should sound - this one might throw you a curveball.

Russian producer Information Ghetto (aka Clapan aka Dennis Korsunski) is no stranger to Burek/Barba/Pomalo family and on this 12" he's pulling all the right moves. Both of the originals, "General Trip" and "Unused OrtoDox", are seriously trippy slow-burning 303 affairs executed flawlessly in a sort-of-a breakbeat manner.

However, the surprise comes on the flip. "General Trip" got a treatment from none other than Luke Vibert, British electronic music legend responsible for some of the most loved albums of the 90s and later. Track's signature acid line is here, and breakbeat moment is sounding as fresh as back in the day. Add an irresistible 90s reminiscent piano hook and it doesn't take a genius to realise you've got on your hands a monster tune which will send any party into overdrive. Big.  

All that, pressed onto a heavy duty 180 gram vinyl and beautifully packaged in an original artwork by EmaEmaEma​.

After starting the mini Dekmantel Selectors podcast series two years ago, it feels like a tradition to bring this back to life again in anticipation of the third edition in August. In the next couple of months, we will release 6 podcasts by some of the exciting artists from the line-up. This year’s podcasts challenges the artists to work around a theme or idea they picked theirselves. First up: French/Belgian selector Raphaël Top-Secret.

Raphaël Top-Secret is known for his notorious digging skills, which he prefers to put in practice at the best Parisian record stores or unknown flee markets. In his earlier days, he used to dj frequently with Antinote label boss Zaltan, touching on everything in between balearic, boogie, reggae, world music, disco and house. As a producer, Raphaël’s work is remarkable too — his ‘Love So High’ EP dropped in 2016 on the same label and three dance floor gems we still can’t get enough of. It should come as no surprise that we’re more than happy to have Raphaël joining us not only for Dekmantel Selectors, but also for Lente Kabinet later in May.

For us, he put together a special mix that covers and touches on many genres. Raphaël on is own podcast for us: "This mix going from 90s hip-hop and R&B to downtempo, house and tropical dance. Overall, it's stuff that I recently found out about and that I really wanted to incorporate in a mix. Beside that, it includes long time favorites as well. I only had two days to do the mix, so the approach was more spontaneous - it was quite fun to do as I was less prepared and just went with the flow. Hope you'll like the vibe and see you in Tisno!".

AVA.016 Too Smooth Christ - "TSC 1"

“IF U WANT IT” is our first micro-album project on clipp.art, and comes via 24 year old female Korean singer, songwriter, rapper, house and techno DJ "박혜진 park hye jin”.

Korean born, 박혜진 park hye jin is a resident DJ at Pistil Dance Club, with regular broadcast performances on Seoul’s independent underground radio “SCR”. Her style blends elements of dream-state house, raw hip-hop & psychedelic darkwave and mixes her own English and Korean vocals over dreamy synths & thick beats for a forward-thinking dancefloor experience.

Title track IF U WANT IT, has park hye jin singing a duet with herself in Korean over a bangin 4/4 beat, followed rapidly by ABC which finds park croon in English over a smoky piano line before tumbling effortlessly into a motorik fashioned middle breakdown. From there we shift gears, sliding into the deep thunder of Korean vocaled I DON’T CARE, the abyss of CLOSE EYES, before sailing endlessly into the moonlight on EP closer, CALL ME.

We are completely thrilled to present you this exciting underground talent coming out of Seoul.

The Truth

Enter @CactusTraxx - A new label with the vision is to quite literally seed music. Each release is centred around a specific organism relating to the widely loved desert flora, with each vinyl release accompanied by seeds of the pertinent plant and instructions for growth - nice touch. Instead of the artist releasing their EP with a title of their choice, the EP name is based on the corresponding plant that has been chosen & sourced seeds for.

In this case we have the 'Ferocactus Pilosus', which is a common species native to the Mexico, colloquially known as the Mexican Fire Barrel. Aptly named by the outfit for their first venture into the sonisphere, this VA is a very hot piece of material to be treated with caution and care. We're featuring @Ray-Kandinski's '9th's & 7th's' which is the darkest cut on the record. Sweeping etherial synths, shattered beats and surging vocal sweeps fill the mix of what is an accomplished piece of work. Drifting with you into the future at unimaginable speeds. The planet is unrecognisable. Is this what they call Dystopia. Who knows.

Sam McQueen's 2004 EP Sephoria is next up to get the Delsin remaster, recut and reissue treatment. The Chicago native has released music as Indio with the likes of John Beltran and also appeared on the Indigo area label. Across six cuts here -two of which have new titles- the little known producer mixes up. 

There is serene ambient landscaping on the 'Inception' and the beatless 'Graduated Frequencies', which resonates with exquisitely melancholic synths, then 'Simple Pleasure' is a celestial world of wiry synths and warm solar winds and 14 days has pillow drum programming and soft focus chords that sooth the soul. 'Yemia' is another symphony of chattery drum hits, meaningful chords and real astral techno beauty and 'Outer Drive' closes down the epic space voyage with delicate melodies and melancholic synths that encourage you to lay back and gaze into a starry night sky.
