I haven't been working on music for months and then after watching some movies with beautiful scores and also watching TV shows with beautiful backdrops (ala Doc Martin), I just found myself compelled to work on this song. I've been busy lately transcribing piano pieces from my second piano album "Accidental Etudes". One piece is left to transcribe and I will compile them into a book and publish it on Amazon, hopefully, in May. Some scores I will put on my site for free download. I plan to organize some online event once I release the book and invite you to play my pieces. There will be some prizes :) More details to come later :)

I want to dedicate this track to the horrors in Paris and terrorism all around the world, my heart goes out, the fear and grief …. Are we ever truly 'free'? Even from burdens when at times, we can all feel overwhelmed, trapped, overcome with, losses, fears and loneliness. 

Society can often place so many boundaries on our freedom, some more than others, and between different countries, where fear often reigns because of different beliefs and our freedoms become curtailed. 

Sadness can penetrate our very soul and the only thing to hold onto is hope and those moments of joy and 'escape' that we can find - the simple things in life, …. we can lose ourselves in music, in nature, and the garden, in friends, in strangers, in love where we can find it, we can stare at the sky in wonder and we can talk to our companions and 'furry friends'  …. and we can hope.

Even then though, such moments can be impacted by the realisation that not all moments last, and the attacks in Paris were terrible, and continue in areas around the world; many of the people were enjoying such moments of 'freedom' in Paris; many others never really experience 'freedom' as we know it.

So many burdens, still 'yearning for simplicity', and now I try to find some freedom in giving my 'baby', my little 'koala kitty', happy times while I watch her slowly deteriorate, and the tears form, as I too become overwhelmed by 'life' and try to escape into music  ……. 

But i know that we can rise again, that there will always be such moments, when we can find 'true freedom' again  ….. <3

When Are We Truly Free - Megs McCarthy

Here is a poem by Yvonne Heinz & recited by Hamilton Bailie (HamBa). The Paris massacre caused such a stir around the world. Not only was there an outpouring of grief & shock but it felt like the terrorists had won & caused people everywhere to feel scared about going out to public places or celebrating our usual festivities in peace. Especially since Paris was already adorned with Christmas decorations & counting down to December 25th, Yvonne decided to do a poem that not only acknowledges the tragedy, but gives cause for hope & optimism, which is a wonderful human trait, the ability to face adversity head on & prevail, no matter the cost.
With these sentiments in mind, I produced sound effects & music to give emphasis to the words & create a vivid picture to back up their intent.

Self-learned pianist. I have been playing since January 2012. I play only by ear (don't know anything about music theory) and have been composing some own music. For now I have only been experimenting different things with my piano and learnt that way. I'm planning to study some basics of music theory at some point.

Songs are played by Casio CDP-100 digital piano and the sound comes from Pianissimo software.
