"... Well, today we have another good one, a solo effort by Axel Weiss (aka Ax. W.), an album entitled Spheres, Solo (Intrinsic Records). Axel comes to the forefront in undiluted fashion, with his acoustic and electric guitars, a little whistling, some keys and digital percussion.
It is music of a thoughtful sort, guitar-centered ruminations that run from acoustic chordal or neo-Brazilian picking and articulating to electric expressions that have both jazz and rock overtones. All of it has an original, Axelian feel to it.

As our previous music albums 'Flow' and 'Silent Noise on Saturn' this is a free and independent work again. Commercial or medial success can't drive such a project - if one would have been focused on such a goal, this kind of music would not exist. It's all about music for itself -  born from the love of music.

In Time

A little impro - partly inspired by Carl Orff's 'Der Mond'. In my memory that was the first piece of music that I knowingly got to know (my mother's lullaby). I whistled it later for my daughter. Guitar and main whistle part were recorded simultaneously. You're invited to whistle along if you like ✨

Dance

Dedicated to those who will probably lose the land under their feet due to climate change - hoping they will get all the help they need and deserve. The people who contribute least to the causes of climate change suffer disproportionately from its consequences. Kiribati is one of those forgotten regions and should be given a small voice here.

Prelude for Kiribati

The opening is dedicated to the wonderful music of John Coltrane. His ballad 'Naima' was the inspiration for the first part of this tune, played in one take. The second half is a spontaneously created latin jazz impro, played spontaneously in two spontaneous first takes too - on the rhythmic and the solo track. 

'Waters of Life' was generously featured over several months on Neworld TV in New York City (many thanks to Sasha Hohri for the biig support).

Special guest: Werner Büsch on drums

Werners drums always offer me a perfect template to groove ahead. Time to pick up my old Fender Jazz Bass again and trying some crunchy stuff. The special thing here is that the guitar retreats to the second place. I'm not primarily a bass player, but in this tune that bass is the king.
